The Skincare Products I’m Currently Using

skincare products I'm using

Many peers and readers have been asking me the same question – “what are the skincare products I’m using at the moment?”. My bad for not able to blog about this topic earlier.

For the past few years, I didn’t really have a regular skincare regimen. I kept trying new products (mainly for review purpose) and chucking away relatively new products that I find do not work.

But for the recent months, my skincare regimen remains more consistent and hence I’m ready to share. There you go….

My Day Regimen

Elizabeth Arden Prevage Anti-Aging Daily Serum > SK-II Skin Signature Eye Cream > Belif The True Cream – Moisturizing Bomb > SkinCeuticals Physical Fusion UV Defense Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF50

My Night Regimen

SK-II Cellumination Mask-In Lotion > SK-II Facial Treatment Essence > Sisley Phyto-Blanc Clearing Essence With Vitamin C > Sisley Ecological Compound > Laneige White Plus Renew Original Essence > Clarins White Plus All Spots Brightening Corrector > SK-II Skin Signature Eye Cream > Belif The True Cream – Moisturizing Bomb

SK-II Cellumination Mask-In Lotion > SK-II Facial Treatment Essence > Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Capsules Daily Youth Restoring Serum > Laneige White Plus Renew Original Essence > Clarins White Plus All Spots Brightening Corrector > SK-II Skin Signature Eye Cream > Belif The True Cream – Moisturizing Bomb

1. Clarins White Plus All Spots Brightening Corrector

Clarins White Plus All Spots Brightening Corrector contains Salicylic acid that helps to reduce dark spots by encouraging the elimination of dead cells full of melanin. This easy to use roll-on, with a targeted application, has an extra-concentrated formula to combat pigmentation. It contains high molecular weight (HMW) hyaluronic acid that improves skin hydration for up to 94% after 2 hours of use. I normally use it on the targeted area around the cheekbone. However it doesn’t prevent the new formation of pigmentation on my skin.

2. Laneige White Plus Renew Original Essence

Laneige White Plus Renew Original Essence is a whitening serum that is formulated without four harmful ingredients like paraben, animal ingredients, artificial pigments and mineral oil. I will see better results when I use it together with Laneige White Plus Renew Capsule Sleeping Pack.

3. SK-II Skin Signature Eye Cream

I’ve just finished the last bit of this SK-II Skin Signature Eye Cream. Unfortunately, it has been discontinued and it is now replaced with the new StemPower Eye Cream. Just bought the new StemPower Eye Cream and hope to review it soon.

4. SK-II Facial Treatment Essence

SK-II Facial Treatment Essence is one of my must-have and my current most favorite skincare product. I’ve been using it, faithfully every night, for the past two years. Previously, I only use it as and when I feel like it. It is said that there’s an intrinsic link between long-term usage of SK-II Facial Treatment Essence and better skin quality as we age.

Research showed that 9 in 10 loyal users have better skin compared to non-users in the same age group, with 7 in 10 users having better skin conditions as compared to non-users who are 10 years younger. I must say it does help to maintain my skin youthfulness. This is one product I can’t leave without at the moment! Read more about my amazing results with SK-II Facial Treatment. <grinning>

5. SK-II Cellumination Mask-In Lotion

SK-II Cellumination Mask-In Lotion is the first step of my skincare regimen every night. It acts as a double cleansing process to help cleanse away the residue and dirt that my cleanser has missed. It also helps to exfoliate my skin whenever I rub the soaked cotton pad with lotion on my face. Love the unique emollient silky texture that glides on the skin easily. My skin feels soft, smooth and clean upon using it.

Review – Sisleya Daily Line Reducer

Sisleya Daily Line Reducer, serum for all skin types, is claimed to provide an immediate sensation of comfort and freshness with both a smoothing and hydrating effect. Surface lines and wrinkles are plumped out and dehydration lines are softened. This skin is firmer, visibly smoother and glowing.

Product claims

With passing time, the fibroblast cells located at the base of deep wrinkles produce up to 3 times less collagen than the other fibroblasts. Thanks to an exclusive combination of 3 cutting edge active ingredients (extracts of Alkekengi’s Calyx, Soya and Padina Pavonica) Siselya Daily Line Reducer helps reconstruct the skin’s framework spectacularly.

My opinion

Well, Sisley has been successfully making the consumers believe that Sisleya Daily Line Reducer is ‘ONE’ cream that will able to help you look much much younger and that it is all you need to eliminate wrinkles and lines. And I believe many women have already fell into the trap.

There is no quick or immediate solution to eliminating lines and wrinkles. It doesn’t happen overnight. One cream itself will not able to do wonders. It will need correct treatments, skin care products with potent ingredients and proper daily regimen to help reduce them.

Hydrolyzed soy protein, its highly-acclaimed ingredient, is a antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent for skin. Although some studies have shown that it has a collagen-stimulating effect and that various compounds in soy influence skin thickness and elasticity but the research was carried out under carefully controlled conditions not related to the way soy protein is used in a cosmetic product.

Sisleya Daily Line Reducer contains tocopheryl acetate, vitis vinifera (grape) leaf extract and arginine which are potent antioxidants.

But is also contains some plant extract ingredients like potentilla errecta and lavender oil which are harmful to the skin.

Although skin is more supple, but there is no visible improvement on expression lines, wrinkles and crow’s feet. There is only a minimal improvement on skin hydration.

Conclusion : The result doesn’t substantiate its over-inflated claims. Sisleya Daily Line Reducer is definitely not the ‘miracle’ cream which you think can erase all those aging lines and wrinkles. Save the money, it is not worth it.

  The price is ridiculously expensive.

Will I buy it again? …… Unlikely!

Review – Sisley Nutritive Lip Balm

Sisley Nutritive Lip Balm, Baume Confort Levres, is a unique, emollient lip balm. As my lip tends to feel dry easily, it is essential for me to apply lip balm at least twice daily.

Product claims

With its exceptional repairing benefits, this balm is a true emergency treatment for cracked, dry and chapped lips.

Sisley Nutritive Lip Balm contains a handful of ingredients which are good emollient like helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, dipentaerythrityl hexacaprylate/hexacaprate and hazelnut oil.

It also contains tocopherol and prunus domestica seed extract which are antioxidants.

Light waxy and non-oily feel

Although Sisley Nutritive Lip Balm is extremely expensive, considering just a lip balm, but it does moisture my lip pretty well. After application, it helps my lip to appear pinkish and moist. I especially love using it during my workout. The cracks and lines have diminished significantly.

If it is not for the jaw-dropping price, I will probably give a good rating for it.

Will I buy it again? …… Yes!

Review – Sisley Gentle Facial Buffing Cream

Sisley Gentle Facial Buffing Cream with Botanical Extracts, is one of my favourite and essential product for my weekly skin-care regimen.

As you should know by now to achieve a brighter looking skin, it is important to exfoliate skin regularly. Exfoliating helps to remove excess dead skin cells and impurities off the skin. It also increases its receptiveness to subsequent skin-care products.

Sisley Gentle Facial Buffing Cream is a water and wax based scrub with polyethylene as the abrasive agent which works gently to lift impurities from the surface of the skin.

Product Review

Applied like a mask then removed with gentle exfoliating movements, taking with it the surface dead cells and impurities which dull the radiance of the complexion.

Apply a thin layer of Gentle Facial Buffing Cream like a mask to clean, dry face and throat, avoiding the area around the eyes. Allow to dry for 2 minutes, then buff with fingertips in gently gliding strokes, taking care not to pull or drag the skin.

Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water, then finish with toner.

Bentonite – type of clay that is used as an absorbent in cosmetics. It can be drying for skin, though its absorbent properties are helpful for those with oily skin. Chamomilla recutita (matricaria) extract, a natural ingredient, is a moderate antioxidant. Fragrance and linalool are potent skin irritants.

Sisley Gentle Facial Buffing Cream with fine polishing granules, helps to eliminate impurities and dead skin cells. Its exfoliating formula not only improves my skin texture and also brightens up my skin tone immediately after wash.

A fresher complexion, with skin that feels clearer and stimulated. It gives a smooth, youthful appearance.

Will I buy it again? …… Yes of course!

Review – Sisley Hydra-Global Intense Anti-Aging Hydration

Sisley Hydra-Global Intense Anti-Aging Hydration, is after all a basic moisturizer with no anti-aging benefits as it claimed to be.

I have tried and tested this product out of curiosity which claims to provide great hydrating benefits.

The ‘interesting‘ part about this product is that it is NOT a serum neither is a skin-stimulator or antioxidant but yet it is said can be used either before your favourite moisturizer or use it alone as a moisturizer. After using numerous Sisley skin-care products, I realized even their beauty counter advisors are not able to categorize certain products at times and this Hydra-Global is one of them. Come on, make up your mind!

Product claims

Hydra-Global is the solution to the problem of dehydration which can be caused by age, the sun and other environmental aggressions eg: wind and air-conditioning.

Ingredient claims (over-inflated?)

  • Extract of padina pavonica – increase the skin’s capacity to preserve water.
  • Extract of wild pansy – circulation of water within the skin will be re-activated and increased.
  • Malachite extract (with the combination of plant actives) – which has an excellent anti-oxidant result, your skin will appear ‘plumped up’ and regain youthful suppleness and luminosity.
  • Extract of stevia leaf – a powerful ‘humectant’ will increase the skin’s function to retain water.
  • Extract of chestnut – acting as a natural exfoliant will optimize the skin’s surface condition.

Sisley Hydra-Global Intense Anti-Aging Hydration contains some antioxidant ingredients which are tocopheryl acetate (vitamin E) and yeast extract. Other beneficial ingredients are panthenol, alcohol form of vitamin B, can be effective for hydration and argireline which claims to have a muscle-relaxing effect similar to Botox injections.

But it also contains lavandula angustifolia (lavendar) oil and linalool, which can cause irritation to skin.

Personal point of views

Although this product is claimed to have hydrating abilities, it doesn’t actually provide much hydrating benefits and is essentially what any moisturizer can do.

Lightweight and non-oily. Easily absorbed into the skin.

Skin is slightly moisturized and tone.

Will I buy it again? …… I don’t think so!

Review – Sisley All Day All Year

Sisley All Day All Year, Essential Day Care, is one product I have trusted and regretted so much on using it. Before I start trashing out all the untruth and damage it has caused, let me provide you the product profile on this ‘unique’ day cream.

Product claim

Sisley All Day All Year, the only product available using a patented method of encapsulating UVA &UVB suncare. Unlike other sunscreens, irrespective of the SPF factor, are only effective for 2 hours before they need to be reapplied, All Day All Year, as claimed, is capable of blocking 90% of UVA and UVB rays for 8 continuous hours.

Skin will therefore be protected from environment aggressors, stress, harmful UVA and UVB rays which are the number one cause for aging. Skin will be hydrated, soft and velvety. Skin will regain a smooth and supple appearance and your complexion is more radiant.

I was in great shock when I realized there is hardly any UV protection and is not recommended for use even one day out of the year. Without sunscreen, this emollient moisturizer for dry skin is a poor choice for daytime, the cost is outrageous, and it contains irritating oils of juniper, sage, and thyme. <Sources : Paula Begoun – Don’t go to the cosmetics counter without me>

Lightweight and non-oily, is suitable for all skin types.

Due to inadequate sun protection, new dark spots have appeared and old spots has becoming more visible.

Will I buy it again? …… Not again!

Review – Sisley Express Flower Gel

Sisley Express Flower Gel, a deeply hydrating leave-on mask which claimed to have an immediate ‘lifting’ effect, is one of my favourite skincare product.

A very freshing gel mask that is sheer bliss for dehydrated, lifeless or energy-depleted skin. Traces of fatigue and stress are smoothed away for a brighter, glowing, radiance appearance.

Though this mask is said to contain a high concentration of hydrating ingredients like Lily and Iris extracts, but research has shown that Iris florentina extract, used primarily as a fragrant component due to its violet-like scent, can cause allergic or sensitizing skin reactions and there is no research showing it has any benefit for skin.

Extract of Sesame, another active ingredient, is rich in Vitamin F that is obtained from organically grown plants, and it will help skin to feel smoother and softer.

I use it twice a week or whenever I want to give my skin a boost. I will feel a bit of stinging sensation whenever my skin is over dehydrated. It is also an excellent mask for around eye area too.

Visible improvement in skin tone and complexion. Skin is hydrated, toned and revitalized. No visible improvement on skin firming.

 (overpriced for a mask)

Will I buy it again? …… Maybe!

Review – Sisleya Global Anti-Age Cream

Sisleya Global Anti-Age, claimed to be a highly effective global anti-aging cream, has won the Prix D’Excellence Marie Claire Japan in 2000.

It is said to contains some of the indispensable elements necessary for the correct functioning of the skin’s metabolism: regeneration and the alleviation of the effects of hormonal deficiencies on the skin.

This expensive anti-aging moisturizer contains synergistic complex of regenerating elements includes ursolic acid, vitamins, and oligo-elements, combined with stimulating factors including phyto-stimulines, and essential oils. It also contains plant ingredients, many of which are antioxidant, though some of them may irritate skin. Equisetum arvense, also known as horsetail extract, and lentinus edodes extract, that may have antimicrobial and antibacterial properties, are plant extracts that have antioxidant properties that could be potential skin irritants.

Pure and highly effective vitamins; A (Retinol), B5 (Panthenol), E, F (essential fatty acid), which help to visibly improve the appearance of skin tissue, fight free radicals and improve skin tone and elasticity.

Sisleya Global Anti-Age exists in two versions : Sisleya – fine texture & Sisleya Extra-Rich – for dry skin. It can be used morning and/or night on face and neck.

Slight visible improvement on skin tone, lines and wrinkles. Complexion is more radiant.

 (hyper expensive)

Will I buy it again? …… Unlikely!
