Many readers have been asking me to recommend a product that can heal acne scars or improve uneven skin tone. As there are many types of scars, a majority of us may mainly suffer discoloration or redness on the skin but there are a couple of us may unfortunately suffer a much more serious skin damage such as indentation that is caused by severe acne eruption. I will usually recommend a non-invasive treatment such as lasers to treat the latter cos I reckon no product in the market can ever eliminate or even reduce them.
A few weeks ago, I was delighted to receive my first specialty product Bio-Oil that is claimed to help improve acne scars, stretch marks and uneven skin tone.
Bio-Oil is packed in a lovely first-aid kit pouch that also contains a bottle of Guardian Antiseptic Hand Rub (Lavender) and a box of Guardian Sterile Plastic Plaster. Love the first-aid kit pouch to the max!
Bio-Oil – S$15.50 / 60ml
Bio-Oil, the newest launched product in Singapore in September 2011 by Cambert, is a specialist skincare oil originating from South Africa that helps improve the appearance of scars, stretch marks and uneven skin tone. It is suitable for use on the face and body, without the worry of leaving oily and uncomfortable residue.
Originated and manufactured in South Africa, this problem-solution specialist skincare oil was launched in 1987 and has grown to become the global leader in this segment over the last 20 years. Bio-Oil has won 69 skincare awards, as well as becoming the No.1 selling scar and stretch mark product in 11 countries.
It is claimed that today Bio-Oil is the product most recommended by doctors and pharmacists for scars and stretch marks in New Zealand, UK, Australia and South Africa. Many doctors and pharmacists around the world recommend Bio-Oil as their 1st choice for scars and stretch marks.
This scar healer is suitable for sensitive skin and women who are expecting or have recently had a baby as Bio-Oil is claimed to prevent the formation and/or helps to improve the appearance of stretch marks. It is hypoallergenic and non-acnegenic (does not cause acne.)
Bio-Oil is available in 60ml bottle with a retail price of $15.50 at all leading pharmacies and departmental stores.
Bio-Oil is originally developed by scientist Dieter Beler in 1987 (also the owner of Union Swiss at the time), believed that oil worked best as a base for skincare products especially those that included vitamins and plant extracts. Creams and lotions, which have water as their main ingredient, did not seem to have the same efficacy. Oil, being oxygen-free, allows the plant extracts and vitamins to retain their potency.
Bio-Oil contains the breakthrough ingredient PurCellin Oil, which changes the formulation’s overall consistency, making it light and non-greasy. This ensures that the goodness contained in the vitamins and plants extracts is absorbed into the skin.
Bio-Oil contains botanical oils like Calendula, lavender, rosemary and chamomile oil; and vitamins such as vitamin A and vitamin E.
In my opinion, I’m a little skeptical and wonder if the botanical oils such as lavender and rosemary can really help to reduce acne scars, stretch marks or uneven skin tone? As far as I know, these ingredients are not known for scar healing. But I will still give this product a benefit of the doubt cos it claims to contain a breakthrough ingredient PurCellin Oil (which I have no idea what is that), Vitamin A and E that may (who knows) help on the scar healing process.
I’m glad to find out that Bio-Oil has been honest and stated on their site that although Bio-Oil is formulated to help improve the appearance of scars, but it can never remove them completely. The results will vary from individual to individual.
On new scars, Bio-Oil should be applied only once the wound has healed and should not be used on broken skin. I reckon the older a scar is, the longer it will take to see the result.
I like the mild fragrance scent and its light oil consistency does feel like a baby oil that leaves a slight greasiness on the skin. It absorbs into the skin quickly and my skin does feel comfortable actually.
Bio-Oil, priced at S$15.50, is now available at all leading pharmacies and departmental stores.
