Clarins Launches NEW UV Plus HP Day Screen SPF 40

Two weeks ago, I have attended a private luncheon event with a few fellow bloggers at PS. Caf© @ Paragon S.C to preview Clarins new improved UV Plus HP Day Screen High Protection SPF 40 that will be launched in mid-March 2011.

In 2005, Clarins have proudly launched its first UV Plus SPF 40, invisible protection against UVA & UVB rays and pollution formulated for Asian women with an active life living in the city.

And now in 2011, Clarins once again is proud to launch a new improved UV Plus SPF 40 that is essential for daily protection for active Asian urban women like you.

In fact, sunscreen is the most important skin care product for my day regimen. Coincidently, I’m now presently using the previous formula of UV Plus sunscreen in tinted texture. Read my review on UV Plus HP Day SPF 40.

UV Plus HP Day Screen High Protection - The New Improved Formula!

S$74 for 30ml

Available in 30ml and 50ml / Neutral and tinted formulas

UV Plus HP Day Screen High Protection is now formulated with an unique antioxidant action thanks to an exceptional plant extract “made in France”.

Recent progress made by Clarins Research has resulted in adding cantaloupe melon extract, a natural fruit, from the Provence region in France to the UV Plus HP formula.

Cantaloupe melon extract, a high performance antioxidant, contains high levels of superoxide dismutase, an enzyme that fights toxic residues from oxygen. This provides skin with further protection against visible signs of premature aging.

Clarins Research has selected cantaloupe melon extract due to its longevity to the high level of superoxide dismutase (SOD) present in its flesh. This enzyme protects the fruit from the harmful effects of free radicals, ensuring that the melon stays fresher and longer.

The melon extract has been encapsulated in microcapsules to preserve its benefits. To ensure optimal effectiveness and an exceptionally fine texture, Clarins Research has selected microcapsules with a specific size of particle that open up when applied onto skin. This protects the SOD present in the formula from harm no matter what the temperature.

Oxidative Stress & Aging

Although oxygen is essential for healthy skin cell life, environmental stress factors can generate excessive levels of certain oxygen by-products and cause cellular change that speeds up the aging process. This is true for the superoxide Ion, a free radical that cells produce in abundance when they consume oxygen. To neutralize these toxic residues that ‘rust’ cellular components, the human body – and plants too – has protective antioxidant systems. However, these natural defense systems change due to age, lifestyle and environmental factors. The balance between oxidants and antioxidants is disrupted, causing cells to experience “oxidative stress”.

SOD, Essential Protection Against Oxidative Stress

Superoxide dismutase (SOD) provides the body with essential protection by neutralizing superoxide Ions that are produced during the cellular respiratory process. This enzyme is naturally present in cells and destroys “primary” free radicals before they can oxidize lipids, proteins and DNA cells. Oxidation leads to the formation of “secondary” radicals. By trapping free radicals beforehand, SOD acts as the source of oxidative stress.

  1. RJ says:

The melon extract used in this formula is also used in a skincare line called Meaningful Beauty, which was created by Cindy Crawford & her dermatologist (Dr. Jean-Louis Sebagh) in France. Apparently that Dr patented this formula too, so this makes me feel a bit worried about the authenticity of the claims.
Won’t this clog pores too? It is liquid, more than serum, so won’t it sink in to skin? Or do you put something on underneath it to prevent this?

  2. Shirleen says:

    Hi RJ,

Not too sure about your questions. Fyi, Clarins UV Plus HP Day Screen High Protection is a sunscreen not a serum.

  3. Ben says:

Thank you so much for posting a review on this! I was actually going to email you asking about a gentle odorless daily sunscreen for the face (that can be used for males), since it did not pop up in your best-of-2011 list, so I’m glad I found this post. However, I assume you would have recommended this? I’ve ordered one, so I hope this is your choice :)

  4. Shirleen says:

    Hi Ben,

Yes, Clarins sunscreen is still one of my favorite choices. I love the latest Clarins Beige-Tinted UV Plus HP Day Screen SPF 40 PA+++ which was launched early this year.
