[Review] Pigment Laser Treatment at SL Clinic by Dr Kelvin Chua

If you have been following my blog, you probably are aware that I’ve been suffering from pigmentation for a long while. What drive me nuts is this stubborn pigment spot on my right cheek! I have gone for pigment laser treatment before but the spot turned darker and bigger shortly after a month. It’s really sickening! Even CO2 laser doesn’t help at all. I look 5 years older with this pigment spot (about 13mm in radius)! Even concealer is not able to conceal it completely. I have tried a handful of whitening products but to no avail. After so many years of suffering, I have almost given up until I met Dr Kelvin Chua from SL Clinic. After a brief discussion with him on my stubborn pigment spot, I decided to get it treated by him.

pigment laser treatment before

This picture was taken with makeup (foundation) on. The pigment spot was still very visible and dark.

This picture was taken immediately after the first session. The pigment spot appeared even darker upon treatment. I was told it is better to start with a lower energy setting to help deliver a safe and effective results and will work with settings tailored to me.

Five weeks after my first session, I made my second visit to SL Clinic. The pigment spot actually became bigger and darker. Dr Chua evaluated the spot and has concluded that I have post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation is a skin condition where pigmentation is increased and it occurs when inflammation disrupts the basal cell layer (the bottom of the epidermis), causing melanin pigment to be released into the papillary dermis (the top part of the dermis).

And because I have post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), Dr Chua administered the laser treatment using a low energy setting. And I was advised to wait a little while longer prior the next treatment. In order to avoid the spot of getting even worse, I have to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen daily and I will try my very best to avoid the sun as much as possible. Consistent use of whitening products actually help to improve the post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH).

Three months after the 2nd session, I visited the doctor again. My spot has turned much much lighter after three months. Thankfully, the post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) has reduced significantly.

For this 3rd treatment, only a small area (at the bottom) was treated.

Now, five months after my 3rd treatment, the pigment spot is almost gone! Only a fading mark (like watermark) is visible on my right cheek now! I don’t even have to conceal the mark with any concealer at all! I’m very pleased with the result! :D

SL Clinic is located at Wheelock Place #04-04 Tel: 6235 3246 and Plaza Singapura #03-33 Tel: 6336 1106. The price for pigment laser procedure varies, depending on the areas treated.
