Review – For Beloved One 20% Mandelic Acid Renewal Serum

Do you know skin exfoliation is actually one of my beauty secrets to healthy looking skin? Exfoliation helps eliminate dead skin cells on the surface and speed up the skin renewal process for a brighter, even-toned and clearer skin. Exfoliation also helps to improve the penetration of my other skin products. In fact, most of the anti-aging, acne or whitening products usually contain a superficial amount of exfoliating agents however the amount used is miniscule to even see dramatic result. If you are having dark spots, dullness, acne, or acne scars, I believe exfoliation may help to improve these skin problems in a way.

Recently, I was introduced to a new exfoliator by For Beloved One. It is the new For Beloved One 20% Mandelic Acid Renewal Serum, a convenient, gentle and safe way to exfoliate skin. It works as a home-use chemical peel treatment for a brighter and clearer skin. I was delighted to receive a complimentary bottle recently.

For Beloved One is a leading cosmeceutical skincare brand founded by Margaret Wu from Taiwan. According to Margaret Wu, “A healthy skin renewal cycle is 28 days. However, because our skin is exposed to many factors in our environment and lifestyle such as pollution, changes in climate, stress, insufficient sleep, imbalanced diet, etc., our cell metabolism becomes slower, dead skin cells on skin surface starts to build up, causing our skin to become dull, lifeless, rough, formation of acne and reduce the absorption of nutrients from skincare products”.

Hence, cell metabolism is crucial to maintaining healthy and beautiful skin.

For Beloved One 20% Mandelic Acid Renewal Serum uses within the safety and effective range of pH level 3.5 that can gently penetrate deep into skin pores to eliminate acne, block the generation of melanin and brighten dull skin tone. In addition, the patent ingredient Melaclear2™, known as “spot eraser”, gently exfoliates the accumulated dead skin cells on skin surface and removes stubborn spots caused by melanin accumulation to create a bright and radiant skin.

It is also formulated with DL-Mandelic Acid that is a lipophilic (fat-liking) AHA which is claimed to have the ability to dissolve in fats, oils and lipids. It can absorb excess oils and unblock pores. It is also claimed to be skin-friendly that allows it to penetrate deep into the stratum corneum without causing excessive irritation and redness.

Salicylic (beta hydroxy acid or BHA) or glycolic acid (alpha hydroxy acid or AHA) are the two common exfoliants used in most skincare products. Glycolic acid is commonly used in chemical peels at spa saloons with a concentration of 20%.

For Beloved One 20% Mandelic Acid Renewal Serum is formulated with the patent ingredient Melaclear2™ and lipophilic Mandelic Acid to help exfoliate the accumulated dead skin cells on the surface of the skin.

For Beloved One 20% Mandelic Acid Renewal Serum uses the highest concentration of 20% and pH 3.5 that is within the safety range for clinical skin renewal care treatment that can be used at home. Though I’m blessed with healthy skin, thanks to my parents’ good genes and meticulous skincare regimen, however my skin does appear dull and rough at times. Hence, regular exfoliation is essential to upkeep my healthy-looking skin.

For Beloved One 20% Mandelic Acid Renewal Serum has a light, non-greasy, clear fluid texture that takes about a minute to be fully absorbed into the skin. I will use it before toner, other serums and moisturizer, during the night.

I must say I actually fall in love with this serum upon my first application. Whenever I use skincare product that is formulated with high concentration of glycolic acid such as only 10%, I will usually feel a tingling sensation immediately upon application. And at times, I will encounter skin irritation too. Thankfully, I didn’t get any burning or tingling sensation after using For Beloved One 20% Mandelic Acid Renewal Serum at all. It appears so mild yet effective that I actually use it for consecutive 3 days for the first time. I just love it!

Two days after the 3-day usage, I start to experience skin shedding that lasts about two days. Skin flakes are mostly situated around my jawline, chin and neck areas. I wasn’t surprised at all as it is a norm when using exfoliants in high concentration.

After using it for three days, I notice there’s a slight improvement on my skin. My pores appear more refined and skin appears less dull and clear. The stubborn dark spots on my right cheek seem to appear less visible too. I hope to see an improvement on wrinkles and fine lines soon. I will definitely continue using it to help improve my skin’s metabolism.

With this serum, I can do a chemical peel at the comfort of my home now! :D

Will I buy it? Likely yes!

Usage direction recommended by For Beloved One

  • For first time users, it is recommended to use the For Beloved One 20% Mandelic Acid Renewal Serum 3 to 4 times in the first week. It will enhance your skin’s metabolism, remove surface dead skin cells and improve the brightness of your skin.
  • During the second week, use twice per week and by the third week, your skin will reveal a natural radiance with soft and firm texture. At this stage, once a week is enough to maintain the results.
  • Note : For those with allergic, sensitive skin, it is not recommended to use 3 to 4 times in the first week; instead, use it twice a week for two weeks to achieve the best results.
  • Use before toner. Apply desired amount evenly onto face, avoiding eye area. Gently pad until completely absorbed.
  • Oily Skin : Use daily. Once skin condition has improved, use every other day or every two days. Combination Skin : Apply on problematic T-zone daily or every other day. Once skin condition has improved, use twice a week. Dry Skin : Use once a week.

For Beloved One 20% Mandelic Acid Renewal Serum, retailing at S$95 for 30ml, is now exclusively available at Sephora outlets at Ngee Ann City, ION Orchard, Great World City, Marina Bay Sands, VivoCity, Bugis+ and The Atrium @ Orchard.

Just for interest do you leave the 20% Mandelic Acid 20% on ? If so, how long do you leave it on ? Do you wipe-off the Mandelic Acid using the For Beloved one extreme Hydration Treatment Toner (this was recommended by the Sephora Sales Representative) ?
