Review – Kiehl’s 1st BB Cream, Actively Correcting & Beautifying BB Cream SPF 50 PA+++

Recently, I was delighted to receive a surprise parcel from Kiehl’s and this round it is not a skincare or body product but a BB Cream! Yes Kiehl’s has finally launched their first BB Cream, also known as Blemish Balm Cream!

In the bag, it contains a full size Kiehl’s Actively Correcting & Beautifying BB Cream, a hardcover notebook, a Kick-Kat and a BB-cream redemption gift voucher.

I’m a big fan of Kiehl’s and I love using Kiehl’s face sunscreen, body and hair products! I’m super excited about the launch of their first BB Cream and their first cosmetic cum skincare product. Frankly, I will never expect that Kiehl’s will one day develop a BB cream under their brand. To me, BB cream is more like a cosmetic product (an alternative to foundation) instead of a skincare product though it is usually formulated with skincare benefits.

Actually I’m not a big fan of BB cream (due to its thick consistency) and I usually prefer something light such as sheer foundation, tinted moisturizer or tinted sunscreen for a natural coverage and to even up my skin tone. And most of the BB Creams available in the market come in only one shade or probably two shades in warm and cool tones.

So how is this Kiehl’s Actively Correcting & Beautifying BB Cream compared to other brands? I must say it’s probably one of the best BB creams I’ve tested so far! I’m surprised too! Read on to find out why……….

Kiehl's Actively Correcting & Beautifying BB Cream SPF 50 PA+++

Kiehl’s Actively Correcting & Beautifying BB Cream SPF 50 PA+++ is positioned as a beauty industry advancement. At Kiehl’s, being first in a category is not their focus and they choose to deliver real benefits in formulas that take innovation to the next level. I’m pleased to learn that Kiehl’s do not launch and discontinue products as trends change, instead they take the time and make the right product for customers. :D

Kiehl’s first BB cream, suitable for all skin types including sensitive skin, gives an instant natural-looking coverage and longer term clinically-demonstrated skin tone correction. It is available in 3 shades – fair, light and natural. It is FREE of fragrance, paraben and mineral oil. It is  dermatologist and allergy tested for sensitive skin and it is non-comedogenic hence it won’t clog pores.

Kiehl’s BB cream is formulated with :

  • Natural Mineral Pigments – Amino acid coated iron oxides, known for their close affinity to skin, provide stay-true color that lasts all day.
  • Glycerin – a humectant that helps skin retain moisture and provides all day hydration.
  • Vitamin C (Ascorbyl glucoside) – an antioxidant that decreases melanin production, prevents and corrects skin damage and discoloration.
  • UV Filters – consist of Homosolate/octisalate (a UVB absorber), Octocrylene (protects skin against UVB and UVA rays) and Titanium Dioxide (mineral sunscreen that blocks UVA and UVB rays).

Review

Kiehl's Actively Correcting & Beautifying BB Cream

Unlike other BB creams, Kiehl’s Actively Correcting & Beautifying BB Cream has a pretty light non-greasy texture. It completely doesn’t feel like a BB cream at all and I actually like it a lot! I was given the lightest shade in ‘Fair’ for this BB cream.

Kiehl's Actively Correcting & Beautifying BB Cream

So make a guess on which half side of my face I’ve have applied Kiehl’s BB cream? Right or left half? Take a closer look. Isn’t it amazing, it’s so light and natural, I couldn’t tell the difference too!

Well, did you get your answer right?

kiehl's actively correcting & beautifying BB cream SPF 50 PA+++

It instantly conceals my imperfection while providing a natural, nude and poreless finish. Goodbye my pores! My skin appears more even toned and nasolabial fold and fine lines seem less obvious. The ‘Fair’ shade perfectly matches my skin tone very well.

The texture is so lightweight that provides a buildable coverage. I can actually layer the BB cream over on the same area without my skin appearing cakey at all. The cream glides easily on skin, making application easy breezy.

Now I’ve applied the BB cream on my entire face (above image). The BB cream gives a semi-matte finish and I don’t need to apply any loose powder over it at all. What I like most about this BB cream is its non-drying lightweight texture that gives a semi sheer and natural coverage. My skin appears radiant and silky smooth. Color stays all day without oxidizing in the midday, no touch-up is required. My skin feels hydrated all day long too.

Kiehl’s Actively Correcting & Beautifying BB Cream SPF 50 PA+++, enriched with great skincare and sunscreen ingredients, provides a great protection against harmful UVB and UVA rays with PA+++. Kiehl’s Actively Correcting & Beautifying BB Cream SPF 50 PA+++, retailing at S$68 for 30ml, is nevertheless one of the best BB creams I’ve tested so far! Absolutely love its texture! :D

    Hi Shirleen,

Thanks so much for the enlightening review.

This product was featured in a free weekly magazine (Stylist) promotion and it instantly caught my eye, as I’m looking for a lightweight BB cream / sunscreen with high SPF (and UVA protection) after the lightweight sunscreen I usually use got discontinued! :-(

I just have one question for you: what is your skin type? (I have combination skin, so I find a lot of products with sunscreen way too heavy for my T-zone).

I’m definitely considering this one as a possible alternative.

    Best wishes,
    Esme
