Watsons’ New Avalon Organics Essential Lift Skincare Collection & Elixir Hair Care Range

I have recently attended a Watsons event to preview two latest Avalon Organics range of products – Avalon Organics Essential Lift Skincare Collection and Avalon Organics Elixir Hair Care Range.

Frankly, I’m not very well-versed with organic products and I hardly use them either. In the recent years, organic products have been very popular among conscious users. The organic products are usually FREE from harsh synthetic ingredients, chemicals and artificial fragrances. Organic products use plants and herbs that are grew organically; and they are claimed to be safe to use even on sensitive skin too.

So far, I have only tested organic shampoos but I’ve yet to test any organic skincare products. Due to my delicate and sensitive skin, I’m actually quite conscious with products that contain natural skincare ingredients such as citric acid, lemon, lavender and some natural fragrance oils. But if you are a fan of organic and doesn’t like anything synthetic or chemicals, then organic products may be ideal for you.

About Avalon Organics

Avalon Organics is a leading natural cosmetic and personal care brand based in USA. Since 1994, they have created exceptionally pure and effective beauty products based on natural and organic botanicals & essential oils. All products are formulated without parabens, artificial colours or fragrances. They are non-toxic and not tested on animals.

Avalon Organics Essential Lift Skincare Collection

Avalon Organics, one of the exclusive brand by Watsons, has recently launched their newest organic anti-aging skincare range - Essential Lift Skincare Collection.

This range is formulated with over 70 oceanic minerals that are claimed to provide natural lift with deep hydration.

This exclusive complex draws out moisture from deep within the skin to plump and firm dehydrated surface layer skin cells. As the products are free from parabens, artificial colors or fragrances hence they are believed to be pure, safe and effective.

The range contains these ingredients that are claimed to provide certain benefits : Organic Ginseng Root Extract and Irish Moss to tone and tighten skin; Organic Aloe Vera Juice and Lemon Peel Oil to refresh and clarify skin; Organic Jojoba Seed Oil and Organic Oat Kernel Extract to soften and tighten skin; and Organic Essential Oils to promote circulation and revitalize skin.

The range is now available at selected Watsons stores with prices ranging from S$15.90 to S$31.90.

Avalon Organics Essential Lift Smoothing Cleanser – S$15.90 / 177ml

Product Claim : A luxurious moisturizing creme cleanser that detoxifies skin by drawing out impurities and gently exfoliating dead skin cells. Nutrient-dense ocean minerals help nourish skin to strengthen its underlying support for a smoother and brighter appearance.

Verdict : Do not expect this cleanser to lift the skin as sagging skin is not about collagen loss but more of a loss of elastin which is impossible to repair with this cleanser. This cleanser contains a handful of ingredients such as lemon, lavender, linalool and citric acid that may be irritating to some people.

This creamy light greyish green cleanser effectively removes light makeup and dirt without stripping off my natural moisture and my skin doesn’t feel tight at all.

Avalon Organics Essential Lift Fortifying Toner – S$15.90 / 177ml

Product Claim : Formulated with essential minerals and organic essential oil, this alcohol-free moisturizing toner helps to stimulate micro-circulation for a lifted and more contoured effect.

Verdict : Although this toner is free of alcohol, paraben, harsh preservatives, synthetic colors or fragrances but it does contain a couple of ingredients such as cedar bark, lemon, balsam and lavender that may be irritating for some people.

Avalon Organics Essential Lift Firming Moisturizer SPF 15 – S$29.90 / 57g

Product Claim : Lift, tone and hydrate your face, neck and d©colletage with this ultra-light, mineral-enriched SPF 15 day creme. This mineral sunscreen help protect skin from visible signs of premature aging, including loss of resiliency and firmness.

Verdict : This daytime moisturizer with SPF 15 provides broad-spectrum protection with Zinc Oxide at 8.5%. It contains a few ingredients such as lemon, rosemary, lavender and linalool that may cause irritation to some people.

Preview The New Lanc´me Hypn´se Precious Cells Mascara

Two weeks ago, I was delighted to attend an event by Lanc´me to preview their latest mascara – Hypn´se Precious Cells Mascara. It was launched in Singapore from 1st July 2011 and is retailing at S$50.

Lanc´me being the world’s leading cosmetics brand has once again excelled in innovation, pushing its unique expertise even further by creating a visibly denser fringe, lengthened lashes, revealing lash growth potential, targeted at Asian women.

A mascara which activates an immediate potential of lash regeneration.
Lash-by-lash volume and spectacular length, achieve visibly denser lashes for Asian eyelashes!

The event was held at L’oreal Singapore office and some tasty sandwiches were served during the event.

Before I go into details on the product, first of all I must say there are two things about Hypn´se Precious Cells Mascara I’m actually very impressed with. The patented unique helix-shaped structure brush and being the 1st mascara that is formulated based on stem cell research, similarly to the skincare line Absolue Precious Cells.

Hypn´se Precious Cells Mascara – S$50

Lash Structure Decoded

Lanc´me’s Research Laboratories believes that lashes, similarly to hair, posses a very sophisticated structure, comprising two main parts : The visible part called the shaft, and the hidden, biologically active part known as the root.

As a result of this study, Lanc´me being a pioneer in scientific and cosmetic research, innovates with cutting-edge formulas and ultra-technological brushes, presents a mascara that is capable of protecting the lashes, and at the same time, offer a remarkable make-up effect for women all over the world.

The dual claim of advanced lash care and spectacular lash volume are tested and developed especially for Asian lashes.

The 1st Mascara Formula Based On Stem Cell Research

Whatever the lash type, over time, they will become visibly shorter, weaker and sparser.

Bolstered by its knowledge of stem cells, Lanc´me created the first formula capable of optimising stem cell activity by acting on their environment in the skincare line: Absolue Precious Cells. In 2010, the technology is transported first-time to makeup in Virtu´se Precious Cells as an advanced lash care product. Seeing a market for regenerated lashes with volume, Lancome presents Hypn´se Precious Cells in 2011 for an immediate potential of lash regeneration, guaranteeing visibly denser lashes. Key ingredients include:

1. Lash Densifier Complex consists mainly of a precious plant cell extract, Malus domestica – already present in the cream formula of Absolue Precious Cells — which is capable of restoring the environment of stem cells in the lashes within the follicle.

Discovered by Swiss scientists, Malus domestica, comes from a specific rare Swiss apple variety, Uttwiler Spatlauber, which has the amazing ability to last months longer than its shriveled cousins after it was picked from the tree. The apple’s longevity lies chiefly in its unusually resilient stem cells.

Touted as the “Fountain of Youth”, Malus domestica is present in Hyp´se Precious Cells and is capable of restoring the environment of stem cells in the lashes within the follicle.

Within 28 days, lashes are visibly regenerated. Lashes’ life cycle is extended and they appear stronger and densified. Younger lashes can now grow stronger and fuller and mature lashes remain visibly longer and thicker.

2. Madecassoside is a fortifying ingredient that is used to strengthen and thicken the hair and its anti-inflammatory properties help to absorb micro-irritation so as to extend the life of lash follicles.

3. Arginine, a type of amino acid known of its nourishing properties, can help to stimulate micro-circulation of nutrients within the follicle so as to re-densify lash fibres.

4. Hyaluronic Acid also present to give an instant plumping effect for a lash by lash, voluptuous curve.

A High-Tech Brush For An Ideal LASH-BY-LASH Volume

Hypn´se Precious Cells Mascara, designed exclusively for Asian lashes, comes with a patented unique helix-shaped structure which has two flat sections (right pix) that generously captures the formula and bathe lashes in its fortifying virtues; and two structured ridges (left pix) for optimal lash fringe definition, magnified volume and spectacular lengthening.

Perfectly coated from root to tip, lashes are immediately amplified and separated for maximum volume at the lash fringe.

For flawless application, position the helix-shaped brush with the lash fringe, moving from the roots to the tips for perfectly separated, amplified lashes.

Beauty Scene Investigation – Unveil The Massbrands Products Winners

Two weeks ago, I’ve attended an interesting and creative event named “Beauty Scene Investigation” by a well-known global company from Japan that owns several prestige and massbrands cosmetics brands in Singapore. The mission of the day was to identify who are the ultimate “beauty products” suvivors for a murder case.

Wanna make a guess on the name of the major cosmetics company I’m referring to? Well, the answer is SHISEIDO.

Do continue reading to search for clues at the crime scene, to uncover the identities of the true-blue survivors and most importantly to find out on why or how these survivors managed to escape from being KILLED!! Hahahahaha…………are you ready gals, lets go!

Before proceeding to the crime scene, we were briefly brief on the murder case with the help from this investigation board.

So here we were at the murder scene with police tapes all over the place.

Everyone was looking for clues at the murder scene.

There are 6 types of crime scenes and each crime scene is targeted to different range of products. A doll was killed at crime scene 1 @ “Hair Care Street”. Crime scene 2 is the “Facial Cleanser Ave” and the crime scene 3 is the “Base Boulevard” where you can find a chopped off finger on a compact foundation.

The other 3 crime scenes are the “Eyeliner Close” @ crime scene 4, “Mascara Lane” @ crime scene 5 and the “Eyeshadow Road” @ crime scene 6.

In the end, these unfortunate victims (beauty products) couldn’t survive and have eventually been killed due to bad quality, poor ingredients and out-dated formulation. So who has actually escaped from the evil clutches of the serial killer and win the competition?

Well let me unveil the mystery and disclose the identities of the 9 ultimate survivors! These survivors are proud to be the winners at the Watsons HWB (Health Wellness & Beauty) Awards ’11. They have been awarded for their quality and innovation, and are a reflection of the popular taste and consumers’ changing preferences and lifestyle.

Below are the 9 ultimate survivors!

Clarins Extra-Firming Body Cream & Lotion – Lifts, Tones, Smoothes

I was first introduced to Clarins bodycare range in early 90s and during the period I was particular concerned about my flabby inner thighs. Clarins, one of the only few reputed brand that offer a full range of bodycare products during the time, was my ultimate choice for body care. My first impression with the products is the refreshing botanical fragrance scent.

Clarins, being the pioneer and expert in body care, has recently introduced 2 new firming additions to their bodycare range - Clarins Extra-Firming Body Cream and Clarins Extra-Firming Body Lotion.

A rich cream or a melting lotion? These 2 newest products have similar effectiveness but only in different textures. They are recently launched islandwide in May 2011.

Clarins Extra-Firming Body Cream – S$102 / 200ml

Clarins Extra-Firming Body Lotion - S$102 / 200ml

The dermis, a support mattress for skin, is made up mainly of collagen and elastic fibres that are surrounded by a gel-like liquid called fundamental substance. Collagen fibres provide skin with density and ensure resistance to the effects of traction and pressure while elastic fibres allow skin to stretch out and provide skin with elasticity.

While firm skin looks smooth, replenished and fits perfectly over the body’s contours, it also stretch, resist pressure and regain its initial form quickly. But as we age, gain weight or pregnant, the body starts to change. Skin will lose its smooth, density and elasticity due to the deterioration of collagen and elastic fibres.

High-Performance Ingredients

Clarins Research, the experts in body care, has taken one step further with Extra-Firming Body Care. With the discovery of the important role of the Emilin-1 protein in cosmetics, Clarins Extra-Firming Body Cream and Lotion have been formulated to help preserve skin’s natural source of elasticity.

Emilin-1, reduces with age, is a key protein that helps consolidate dermal architecture by encouraging the link between elastic and collagen fibres. Organic lemon thyme that grows throughout the Mediterranean region, has been obtained by Clarins Research to help boost the production of Emilin-1, prevent loss of skin firmness and restores skin’s natural elasticity.

Extra-Firming Body Care has also been formulated with 3 others high performance ingredients. Centella extract that helps boost collagen production and protects dermal fibres from deterioration. Bocoa extract an exclusive Clarins ingredient that also helps boost the production of collagen. Vu Sua is an exclusive Clarins ingredient that help protect dermal fibres from the glycation process.

I have recently received a complimentary Clarins Extra-Firming Body Lotion to try. I will definitely test this product but not now as I’m currently going through a slimming challenge with Marie France Bodyline. I will like to see the actual result from the slimming challenge alone and hence I will do a full product testing on the body lotion after the challenge.

I like the scent a lot, smells refreshing and soothing with a tinge of natural floral woody fragrance. The creamy and non-greasy texture actually absorbs well onto the skin and quickly too. My skin doesn’t feel sticky at all. And in fact, my skin actually feels soft and comfortable, thanks to shea butter, hazelnut and jojoba oils.

Clarins Extra-Firming Body Cream and Extra-Firming Body Lotion are now available at any of the Clarins counters at only S$102.

Review – My Final Marie France Slimming Treatment

Two weeks ago, I’ve finally gone for my 4th and last slimming treatment session at Marie France Bodyline and this round the focus was on my abdomen area. For this session, the consultant has customized a set of personalized treatments (including CPT) that is specially tailored to my body needs.

The therapist began the session with a relaxing welcome massage on my shoulder. This massage actually help to relax my body and mind, and I believe it may help to enhance the effectiveness of the following treatment later on. After a gentle scrubbing, the therapist then applied a cold and warm gel on my abdomen and used an applicator to roll over the area to allow the gel penetrates better into the dermal layer of the skin.

The session also includes the essential unique slimming massage and the special infrared hot blanket slimming treatment. The hot blanket is in fact my most favorite slimming procedure of all! My whole body including my thighs and arms feel warm and calm. This intense warm sensation actually helps to relax my body and mind, I almost fell asleep with it zzzzz…… It was so rejuvenating that I wanted to make a request with the therapist - do not STOP the machine pleaseee!

I actually enjoyed this last treatment session very much. The complete customized treatment helps to detoxify, improve lymphatic drainage, enhance microcirculation of the dermis and fat deposits; and convert stubborn stored fats into energy.

It has been 2 weeks now since the last treatment at Marie France Bodyline. I didn’t have a chance to measure my BMI at Marie France Bodyline and therefore I wouldn’t be able to reveal on how much fat I have lost so far. And I have actually noticed a slight improvement on my abdomen area. It is less bloated, more toned and flatter now. I’m quite pleased with the results.

9 Great Reasons To Shop & Dine At Changi Airport!

Recently, I was delighted to be cordially invited to an interesting event that was held at Singapore Changi Airport. It was an eye-opening experience.

5 bloggers including myself were invited to this exclusive event. It was my first ever excursion within Transit areas at Changi Airport Terminal 1, 2 and 3 without having to carry a passport with me at all.

I have to confess, I’m a total shopaholic freak whenever I’m shopping at Perfume & Cosmetics outlets at Changi Airport. Recently, I have twice burned a big big hole on my wallet at the same Perfume & Cosmetics store located at Terminal 3 transit area while on my way to Japan in April 2011 and Shanghai in June 2011 trips, spending more than S$500 and S$1000 respectively. I just couldn’t control myself, the heavily discounted prices are too irresistible! Do you know all products at the Perfumes & Cosmetics outlets are up to 40% cheaper than the downtown stores? And one big reason for my recent hush hush extravagant buy is to get a chance to win the “Be a Changi Millionaire” Draw that ends 30 November 2011! ONE lucky shopper will get to win A MILLION DOLLAR!

Isn’t it the best time to stock up my beauty products? How could I able to resist these super deals right?!

Whenever I travel abroad, I will often check-in my luggage 2-hour before my departure time so that there is sufficient time for me to do some price, brands and products comparison, and to grab all the beauty products I required. Frankly, 2-hour is actually not enough for me.

9 Great Reasons To Shop & Dine At Changi Airport!

New DHC Mild Touch Cleansing Oil & DHC Pore Essence

DHC Introducing the new DHC Mild Touch Cleansing Oil & DHC Pore Essence

DHC, Japan’s #1 direct mail skincare brand and leading provider of high-quality products, is proud to introduce a simple yet effective two-step approach to beautiful skin – DHC Pore Essence and DHC Mild Touch Cleansing Oil.

These two newest products in the DHC family, enriched with natural ingredients, are now exclusively available at selected Watsons stores.

Both products are coloring, paraben and alcohol-free.

DHC Mild Touch Cleansing Oil – S$37.50

Due to the popular demand of DHC Deep Cleansing Oil, Watsons has once again specially brought in DHC Mild Touch Cleansing Oil, a milder version that effectively removes dirt and impurities.

Proper cleansing is one of the most important step for a healthy-looking skin. Do you know that skin problems such as clogged pores and skin irritation can occur if make-up and impurities are not properly removed?

The newest DHC Mild Touch Cleansing Oil, enriched with natural Lavender Essential Oil, is claimed to solve this problem while maintaining skin’s moisture levels.

It contains two types of cleansing contents — regular cleansing ingredients and gemini amphiphilic cleansing ingredients. While regular cleansing ingredients contain water and oil dissolvable contents, gemini cleansing ingredients are oil in water emulsions. This helps the latter fulfill both “powerful cleansing” and “moisture effect” simultaneously by enabling both oil and water contents to merge together.

Furthermore, this revolutionary formula disperses oil into ultra fine emulsion, causing makeup and impurities to rise to the surface while preventing re-absorption. It guarantees that even the thickest make-up can be removed easily!

It is also formulated with hydrating ingredients such as Plural Amino Acid and Moringa Seed that help strengthens skin’s functions for a fresh and hydrated complexion.

DHC Pore Essence – S$58.50

Are you troubled with having enlarged pores? Visible pores are unsightly as skin appears less smooth and is also easily clogged up by dirt and impurities.

My Japan Holiday Diary (Part 4) – Sapporo, My Shopping Paradise!

As promised, I’m back again to continue my diary on my recent unforgettable Japan trip from 15th to 25th April 2011. And this round, I’m going to blog about SHOPPING SHOPPING SHOPPING!!

After traveling to Hakodate, Noboribetsu and Otaru for the past 5 days, we have finally reached our fourth and final destination in Japan - Sapporo.

Sapporo is in fact my most favorite shopping destination so far. This round we have planned to stay at Sapporo city for 4 nights.

Due to the cold weather, the streets look deserted as most people prefer to walk at the underground that is accessible to most buildings.

So here I am at Sapporo, the capital of Hokkaido and Japan’s fifth largest city, woohoo my beloved shopping paradise! If you wanna me to compare Sapporo with Tokyo, I will definitely prefer Sapporo.

Although Tokyo is the most happening and busiest city in Japan, why I still prefer Sapporo is because it is less crowded, the price (for the same thing) costs much lesser, easy accessibility, the people are friendlier and walk slower. Walk slower? Hee hee I actually mean the people in Tokyo walk faster and seem to always be in a hurry. I didn’t really enjoy my stay in the fast paced city life of Tokyo during my previous trip in 2008. I feel less stressfull and more comfortable shopping in Sapporo instead.

Here’s the crowd at Sapporo Subway. Can you imagine it will be even more crowded in Tokyo? The hotel that we were staying is located directly above this subway station and it’s 5-minute walk to Sapporo railway station. Convenient right?!

Okie enough of the comparison. So now, let me give you a short tour around Sapporo.

Although Sapporo is filled with many big departmental stores such as Daimaru, Parco and Tokyu but I still prefer to shop at those small local high-street fashion stores located around subway underground and shopping malls.

I couldn’t remember how many rounds have I been walking through this underground (image above) which link from Odori Subway to Susukino Subway. Hee hee………….. can’t get enough of it!

Many shopping malls and department stores are actually accessible from the underground and there are more than 200 fashion stores and eateries at the underground shopping mall alone. The escalator (image above) is linked from the underground to basement 2 at one of the many shopping malls.

You are able to find a large variety of high-street fashion at underground shopping malls, department stores and local shops.

Bought these 2 pairs of shoes at one of the shoe shops at underground. Brown leather shoes with flower @ 2300 Yen (S$36) and ash white leather shoes @ 5000 Yen (S$76.50). Both pairs are super super comfortable! Designed with soft paddings at the base. Love them to the MAX!!

Wanna buy a pair of suede boots but I was torn between these 2 colors. I eventually go for the dark brown shade @ 5000 Yen (S$76.50). Nice?

Here is my huge recycled shopping bag, it’s so useful that I always carry it around. Instead of carrying multiple shopping bags, I will dump all my new purchases in this bag.

I have bought this blouse @ 2500 Yen (S$38.25) at one of the high-street fashion boutiques located at one of the shopping malls. This bohemian design is very popular in Japan during my visit. I can find similar designs everywhere in Sapporo.

Showcasing some of the pieces I’ve bought at my favorite fashion boutiques near Sapporo Subway Station.

Striped blouse @ 2400 Yen (S$36.72), leopard print scarf @ 1500 Yen (S$22.95) and white top @ 1900 Yen (S$29). Super reasonable prices with good quality that are made in Japan!
