Vichy Laboratoires Bi-White Reveal Workshop

Two weeks ago, I have attended my second Vichy workshop at Once Upon A Milkshake at Tanjong Pagar to preview a new addition to Vichy Laboratoires Bi-White Reveal range – the Bi-White Reveal Deep Cell-Whitening Spot Intervention. Thanks to Pearlin for extending this invitation to me.

A great yummy booster – nutty peanut butter milkshake (smooth & creamy peanut butter with crunchy peanuts). What a great way to start the workshop. ;-)

Say Goodbye To Pigmentation!

Vichy has cordially invited Dr. Jonathan Lee, a Consultant Surgeon who is the founder for Aesthetics & Rejuvenative Medicine, to explain the causes, prevention and treatment solutions for pigmentation.

As there are so many choices of cosmetic products and treatments available today, I was delighted to learn from Dr Lee on what are the correct treatments and ingredients that will effectively treat pigmentation.

These are the common questions frequently asked in regards to pigmentation.

As pigmentation is one of the first signs of aging, women in their early 20s have already started to notice pigmentation on their skin. Based on Dr Lee, the various ways to treat pigmentation are :

  • Topical Treatments
  • Chemical Peels
  • Intense Pulse Light (IPL)
  • Pigment Lasers
  • Skin Resurfacing

Topical Pigmentation Treatments

Studies have shown that the three main type of topical treatments to treat pigmentation are exfoliants, tyrosinase inhibitors and anti-oxidants. And some of the most common ingredients to either reduce or prevent pigmentation are Tretinoin (retinoids), kojic acid, hydroquinone, glycolic acid, arbutin and many many more……..

LHA (lipo hydroxy acid), an exfoliant that is derived from Salicylic acid, is claimed to treat pigmentation too. Vitamin C (ascorbic acid), a potent antioxidant and wrinkle reducer, not only helps to reduce skin damage caused by free radicals but also inhibits the formation of melanin.

Put A Stop To Your Spots!

Pigmentation, one of the most common signs of aging, tends to make a person looks older than their peers who doesn’t have pigmentation. Pigmentation can cause by repeated exposure to UV rays, stress, acne, heredity, hormone change, pregnancy and drugs.

Before treating pigmentation, it is important to identify on what kind of pigmentation you are suffering from. The different kind of spots are :

  • Sun Spots
  • Freckles or Ephelides
  • Melasma
  • Age Spots
  • Acne Marks
  • Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation
  • Drug-induced hyperpigmentation

Review – Angelface Oxygenating Skin Therapy

Do you know when skin is lack of oxygen, skin will appear dull-looking and loss of radiance? Just like body, skin needs oxygen too. Other than genetic, sun exposure, pollutions, diet, stress and unhealthy lifestyle habits, low oxygen level in the skin is also one of the factors for skin aging.

Do read on to find out on why oxygen is important to our skin.

Recently, I have received an invitation for a complimentary Oxygenating Skin Therapy Treatment from AngelFace. At first I was a little hesitating if I should take up the offer reason because I was of late extremely busy with my day work and I have been practically working OT for the past couple of weeks. In addition, there are several beauty events that are all happening at the same time. I’m also afraid that I would not be able to review this treatment soonest as there are piles of backlog posts to be completed. But fortunately, I have made the right choice of accepting it and it turned out to be one of the most rejuvenating skin treatments I’ve ever experienced so far!

About AngelFace

Established since 2000, Angelface runs an exclusive group of salons with a complete therapy of professional consultation for any requirement. Located conveniently in CBD areas such as Tanjong Pager and The Adelphi, it is perfect for busy working professionals who need to pop in for a treatment anytime.

It rejuvenates and improves the blood circulation of the face, revealing a brilliant and healthier skin after the treatment session.

Review on Oxygenating Skin Therapy

Due to recent late nights and stress, my skin has appeared dull-looking and loss of radiance. It was really bad and even with twice weekly exfoliation with hydrating mask do not really help at all. Coincidentally, this complimentary Oxygenating Skin Therapy came at the right time, I can now re-energize my tired skin right away!

Beauty Questions? Ask Dr. Irwin
- Skin Redness & Dehydration

Reader’s Question

I have redness on my face. Isn’t my skin considers sensitive skin type? Although, my skin is quite tight (as it is dehydrated )and dry after cleansing and without applying moisturizer but I also have enlarged pores, it will produce oil in the afternoon. Shall I use all oil-free products? Or should I use product mainly for sensitive skin or combination skin? It is advisable to take collagen and Hyaluronic acid liquid supplement to improve my skin dehydration?

Thanks for your reply.

Dr. Irwin’s Answer

I’m wondering if you’ve seen a Dermatologist to make sure you don’t have rosacea which can cause redness and dilated pores? Also, it’s possible that you’ve become allergic to one of the ingredients common to skin care products. That type of allergy or irritation can cause skin to be red and dry. I think a visit to your skin doctor could save you some time and money (by not investing in products that aren’t right for you). You may need a prescription if you have rosacea. In the meantime, while you’re waiting, I would vote for a very gentle cleanser like the Cetaphil liquid cleanser and a light moisturizer (maybe the Cetaphil Lotion) but there are lots of good ones. I have no financial ties to Cetaphil! Hold off on expensive skin care products for right now until you’ve been evaluated. And here is more info to read up on rosacea:

Tony Moly NEW Perfect Eyes Eyeliner

Introducing a new addition to Tony Moly cosmetics line – Perfect Eyes Eyeliner! This new eyeliner, exclusively made in Germany, was launched island-wide three weeks ago. Priced at only S$26.90, there are five colors to choose from -

No 1 – Black
No 2 – Brown
No 3 – Pearl Black
No 4 – Pearl Brown
No 5 – Pearl Kaki

I was given a complimentary eyeliner in shade No.2 (Brown), many thanks to Tony Moly Singapore! ;-)

As the product was running so fast, the most basic color No.1 (Black) actually ran out of stock within a few days prior launch and hence the picture above didn’t include the color. I was told that the new stocks will be arriving in Singapore in two to three weeks’ time.

This eyeliner goes on smoothly and it feels soft on the skin. Its non-drying and soft texture makes the application so much easier and it doesn’t pull my delicate skin on the eye areas at all. It can last for a few hours and it doesn’t smudge at all!

Wait no more! Check out the colors at any of the Tony Moly outlets now!

Clarins Launches NEW UV Plus HP Day Screen SPF 40

Two weeks ago, I have attended a private luncheon event with a few fellow bloggers at PS. Caf© @ Paragon S.C to preview Clarins new improved UV Plus HP Day Screen High Protection SPF 40 that will be launched in mid-March 2011.

In 2005, Clarins have proudly launched its first UV Plus SPF 40, invisible protection against UVA & UVB rays and pollution formulated for Asian women with an active life living in the city.

And now in 2011, Clarins once again is proud to launch a new improved UV Plus SPF 40 that is essential for daily protection for active Asian urban women like you.

In fact, sunscreen is the most important skin care product for my day regimen. Coincidently, I’m now presently using the previous formula of UV Plus sunscreen in tinted texture. Read my review on UV Plus HP Day SPF 40.

The older bottle on the left and the new improved version on the right.

The new packaging (on the front) is slightly shorter in height.

UV Plus HP Day Screen High Protection - The New Improved Formula!

S$74 for 30ml

Available in 30ml and 50ml / Neutral and tinted formulas

UV Plus HP Day Screen High Protection is now formulated with an unique antioxidant action thanks to an exceptional plant extract “made in France”.

Recent progress made by Clarins Research has resulted in adding cantaloupe melon extract, a natural fruit, from the Provence region in France to the UV Plus HP formula.

Cantaloupe melon extract, a high performance antioxidant, contains high levels of superoxide dismutase, an enzyme that fights toxic residues from oxygen. This provides skin with further protection against visible signs of premature aging.

Clarins Research has selected cantaloupe melon extract due to its longevity to the high level of superoxide dismutase (SOD) present in its flesh. This enzyme protects the fruit from the harmful effects of free radicals, ensuring that the melon stays fresher and longer.

A Great News From Watsons!

Here’s a great news I’ve received from Watsons! Watsons has recently engaged 10 beauty bloggers to be the Watsons Ambassadors in Singapore and I’m glad I was invited to be one of them. Although I’m not very comfortable to be the replacement for one of the ambassadors (after first round selection), but well thinking I have nothing to lose and hence I have accepted the offer eventually. I believe it will somewhat benefit me and my readers as there will be lots of new product previews, reviews and giveaways for sure!

I believe majority of us who are residing in Asia will probably very familiar with this brand. Here’s a short introduction of Watsons Personal Care Stores :

Watsons, Asia’s #1 and World’s largest Health and Beauty Retailer with over 9,300 stores in 33 markets worldwide, first made its foray into the Singapore market in April 1988 with the opening of a 4,000sq ft store at Marina Square. The Watsons brand has since expanded rapidly throughout the years and has evolved itself in line with the proposition to help customers have fun “Looking Good, Feeling Great”.

In 2003, Watsons introduced pharmacy services to its customers with the opening of its first pharmacy counter at Ngee Ann City. Watson’s Singapore now has 106 stores and 28 pharmacy counters islandwide.

Being an ambassador, I will get to review exclusive house brands, be the first to be informed of the latest product at Watsons, to be invited for workshops, have my reviews uploaded on Watsons blog and to be featured at Watsons & Glow Facebook as well as Glow Magazine.

Well a few months back I have actually attended my first Watsons ”Get-To-Know-You” Media Tea at Heart Bistro @Palais Renaissance. It was a private event with a couple of media editors and another beauty blogger. During the event, we were introduced a range of Watsons Brands that include DHC Skincare, Pure Beauty, Avalon Organics and Watsons House Brand.

Click here to read my previous post and find out more about the Watsons Brands like DHC Skincare, Pure Beauty, Avalon Organics and Watsons House Brand.

Moving forward………….

As an ambassador I will be regularly posting write-ups and reviews on Watsons Brands. And not forgetting more giveaways too! Do you have any particular Watsons House Brand product you would like me to review? Do you have any favourite Watsons House Brand product? Do share. I hope to throw a giveaway soon, any suggestion on product?

Hope to hear your thoughts too! ;-)

Beauty tip of the month

The five goals of skin beauty

Every morning, as soon as I get up, I look in the mirror to inspect my face. Are my cheeks dry? Is my skin looking dull? Are there circles under my eyes? At the same time, I also assess how I can make myself look better.

It helps to have a clear idea of what sort of skin you want to have rather than haphazardly going about your skincare. Oddly enough, many people are not certain just what healthy, beautiful skin is. In answer to this problem, I created important criteria for defining beautiful skin, based on the experience I gained back in my days working in the cosmetic industry. I call these the five goals of skin beauty: moisture, smoothness, firmness, elasticity, and clear complexion. The ideal skin is one that possesses all of these qualities.

With this five-point evaluation, all you have to do is identify the areas where your skin needs work, and move toward balancing out the five qualities. This is where caring for both your epidermis and dermis comes into play. Smoothness and firmness are primarily achieved through epidermal care, while dermal care is the key to moisture, elasticity, and complexion.

What is Facial Rejuvenation

To rejuvenate is to make young or youthful again or restore to an original or new state. True facial rejuvenation, for the face to be made young or youthful or restored to an original state, requires correction of all of the above facial aging changes. The problem with most wrinkle cures and anti-aging therapies available today is that they address only one or two of the five major facial aging changes – skin texture changes, pigmentation, fine lines & wrinkles, deep facial lines and loose skin.

Treating one or two of the aging changes is a partial treatment and achieves only a partial result, not true facial rejuvenation. For example, a face-lift tightens the facial skin, but you simply have tightened old looking skin when you are finished – better, but still old looking. Some laser procedures can remove brown spots and blood vessels and refresh the skin, but wrinkles and sagging skin are unchanged, the face still look old. Botox can remove your frown lines and crows feet, but Botox does nothing about pigment, blood vessels and loose skin and other wrinkles. Fillers like Restylane, Sculptra and Radiesse can soften deep lines around the mouth and nose, but do not address any of the other changes.

Wrinkle creams and fad diets achieve the most disappointing results. All would agree that sun block, a healthy diet, lots of water, and anti-oxidant vitamins are important for your health. If you started when you are 16 or 18 years old these preventative therapies may help prevent facial aging. But once you have the physical signs of aging more aggressive therapy is required to reverse them and rejuvenate the face.
