Review – Perricone MD Vitamin C Ester Serum

A few months ago, I have received a couple of awesome Perricone MD Cosmeceuticals products shortly after I have attended my first Perricone event to preview the newly launched Cold Plasma at Metro Paragon.

Inside the lovely gift box, it contains Vitamin Ester Eye Serum, Nutritive Cleanser, Serum Prep and Face Finishing Moisture.

Perricone MD Cosmeceuticals, a US dermatologist-developed line, is exclusively developed by Nicholas Perricone MD and he’s the author of the beauty book titled “The Wrinkle Cure” and “The Perricone Promise”.

Perricone MD Cosmeceuticals is officially launched in Singapore in late April 2010 and is now available at escentials @ Tangs Orchard, Metro Paragon, Robinsons Centrepoint, Robinsons Raffles City. You may also find Perricone MD Skincare at Sephora but it doesn’t carry the full range.

I love serums and I especially keen on serum that is exclusively designed for eye areas. So when I was presented with a full size Perricone MD Vitamin C Ester Serum for eye, I was extremely delighted.

And after trying this vitamin C eye serum for more than a month, I’m now ready for a review and I can’t wait to share the goodness of this product with my readers.

Review – Hourglass Cosmetics, A Luxury Makeup Brand From US

Recently I was extremely delighted to receive a few great Hourglass Cosmetics products from Hourglass head office @ California.

Hourglass Cosmetics, a luxury makeup brand, is sold at Sephora Ion and True Colors in Singapore. It provides cutting-edge technology and innovative packaging with superb quality cosmetics products.

Frankly, I have not heard of this brand before and after browsing through their website Hourglass Cosmetics, I was actually surprised and glad to know that this luxury cosmetic brand is now available in Singapore. My first impression on the site was great! The products are so desirable! I couldn’t hold back my excitement and I hurried down to Sephora Ion Orchard on the following day to check out the shades and texture. After sampling some of the tester products, I was truly impressed! The quality is superb! The texture (especially the eyeshadows) are super fine and smooth. The colors are also rich, seductive and intense.

Hourglass Cosmetics is in fact one of the best makeup brand I have discovered recently.

About Hourglass Cosmetics

A line that truly embodies modern luxury, Hourglass Cosmetics combines timeless extravagance and style all in one elegant collection. From lush shades to incredibly luxurious packaging, makeup has never been so stunning – or perfecting. Created by beauty veteran Carisa Janes, each innovative product is formulated with the latest cosmetic technology and cutting-edge ingredients. Many contain anti-aging properties yet leave out harmful ingredients such as parabens, phthalates and sulfates. Offering a full collection of color cosmetics and brushes, Hourglass is celebrated for its “complexion perfecting” products such as Veil Fluid Makeup, Veil Mineral Primer, and Illusion Tinted Moisturizer. The brand is available at Sephora, and Barneys New York. For more information on the line, please visit

Here are what I have received – Calligraphy Liquid Eye Liner, Trace Lip Liner, Extreme Sheen High Shine Lip Gloss, Film Noir Mascara and Prodigy Hydrating Lip Gloss.

Plus sachet-size Veil Mineral Primer and Illusion Tinted Moisturizer.

Prodigy Hydrating Lip Gloss – S$38

A high shine sheer lip gloss in a sleek and streamlined package, exclusively designed for the brand.

Product Benefits

  • “Tube” features a metalized outer shell to conveniently fit into the palm of the hand or slipped into a pocket or clutch
  • Silky and non-tacky texture provides high shine and comfort
  • Enhanced with Vitamin E to hydrate and protect the lips from becoming chapped and dry
  • May be worn over lipstick and lip liner or worn on its own
  • Offers superior water-resistant color
  • Paraben, sulfate, phthalate and fragrance FREE

Although Prodigy Hydrating Lip Gloss has an unique and interesting packaging but it’s not really user-friendly. I have a hard time opening it for the first time. In fact, the easy and correct way to open it is to slightly tilt the cover to one side and pull it outward from sideway.

How to use : press the centre portion of the packaging to squeeze out the product.

I also find it hard to apply due to the flat surface area at the opening tip. It tends to mess up my lip with excess gloss on the outer area of my lip.

I guess the best way to apply it is to use a lip brush but I’m just plain too lazy to use a lip brush though.

Prodigy Hydrating Lip Gloss comes in 6 colors : Surreal, Hypnotic, Pulse, Eden, Opium and Legend.

I have selected the reddish brown shade Hypnotic as my sampling piece. This photo is taken on a bright day light hence the color (Hypnotic) seems to be different from the picture above. I really love this shade, it looks so natural especially on bright day light.

Prodigy Hydrating Lip Gloss provides an excellent moisturizing, translucent and slight tinge of luminous metallic finish. Although it is glossy, but it is non-sticky. My lip doesn’t feel dry even after many hours later. Excellent product!

Verdict : Love the color, texture and moisture level. Easy to remove and not too glossy which is good. Interesting packaging but not very practical. I would have given a full mark with 5-Star if is not because of the packaging.

Will I buy it myself? Yes Definitely!

December 10 –
To believe or not to believe

The medical community knows that the percentage of active ingredients is critical for the product to be effective. All scientific efficacy studies on cosmetics ingredients have to be reported by naming the exact percentages of the active ingredients. This is because we know that if, for instance, the retinol or the glycolic acid percentage does not reach a certain level, their presence is entirely meaningless from the perspective of performance. It might as well be missing and will do just as much good. If it is present in the right percentages, however, it may irritate some people initially before the product starts to deliver results, which may drive up product returns, the worst fear of cosmetics executives. Also, the right percentages will definitely drive up product price because some of the active ingredients cost in the thousands per kilo.

Secrets For Ageless Skin

December 10 –
Beauty tip of the month

Toners are another way to add hydrating ingredients to the skin along with water. A spray of a toner that contains humectant ingredients followed quickly while the skin is still damp with a hydrating moisturizer or treatment product can flood the upper layers of the skin with water and ingredients to keep it there.

Exfoliation is also helpful for moisturizing and some moisturizers contain alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) to improve the health and function of the stratum corneum.

Hydrating ingredients are not limited to moisturizers. Even cleansers, which are washed away after a minute or two, can be enriched with water-holding and water-attracting ingredients that leave a moisturizing film behind. In order to gently remove the dirt and debris on your skin, some mild detergent ingredients are needed, but you don’t want too much or you can take away the natural moisturizing lipids that your own skin has created. Not only do you want to avoid disturbing the skin’s barrier function, you want to leave it even more hydrated than it was when you started.

Review – Japan SANA’s Natural Resource Range

A few months ago, I have received a full range of Japan SANA’s Natural Resource products and I was supposed to review them one month after usage. Yes I know it was way overdue. But due to other commitments lately, I have no choice but to defer this review. Excuses excuses excuses hee hee…………..

Thankfully, Carra from SANA has never chased me on this. Thanks Carra and Elfaine from TheSampleStore for their patience and understanding! :-)

Click here to read my earlier preview on SANA’s Natural Resource.

The range of SANA’s Natural Resource products that I have received and to review are :

  • Natural Resource Medicated Cleansing Oil
  • Natural Resource Medicated Foamed Wash
  • Natural Resource Medicated Skin Lotion (Toner)
  • Natural Resource Medicated Milk Lotion
  • Natural Resource Medicated Cream
  • Natural Resource Medicated Essence Lotion (Serum)
  • Natural Resource Medicated UV Milk SPF19 PA+++ (sunblock)
  • Natural Resource Liquid Foundation UV SPF22 PA+++
  • Natural Resource Loose Powder UV SPF19 PA+++
  • Natural Resource Medicated Compact Pressed Powder
  • Natural Resource Moist Skincare Powder 24h (night powder)

SANA’s Natural Resource Profile

SANA’s Natural Resource products, from Japan, contain natural ingredients such as balsam, wild rose, magwort, white birch, brown sugar and adlay extracts. They also contain refreshing fruits and fragrant flowers such as geranium, lavender, rosewood, bergamot (orange) and grapefuit. These natural aromas allows skin and mind to relax with the refreshing fragrance of herbal aroma and to heal tired spirit. Frankly, I was a little skeptical to review these products at first. Reason because it contains natural lavender ingredient which (I always have this perception) will cause skin irritation especially on sensitive skin like mine. But I brave myself to try out the products and to my surprise, most of the products do not cause any irritation except the Essence Lotion.

All SANA’s Natural Resource products are FREE of colorants, mineral oil, alcohol (except Skin Lotion AC), paraben, ultraviolet ray absorbent agent and artificial fragrances.

All SANA’s Natural Resource is suitable for sensitive skin except Lotion AC.

SANA’s Natural Resource Cleansing Oil

180ml / S$34.90

SANA’s Natural Resource Cleansing Oil is my favourite SANA Natural Resource product. I like the transparent lightweight, dilute and non-oily texture. It is less oilier than other cleansing oils I have tested before such as Shu Uemura and Fancl. I like the light lavender scent too.

Although SANA Cleansing Oil is very gentle but it effectively removes stubborn waterproof makeup pretty well. This oil-based makeup remover effortlessly remove all traces of makeup and it doesn’t make my skin feeling greasy/oily after use. It doesn’t make my skin feeling dry nor tight. And most importantly, it doesn’t cause any irritation on my sensitive skin. Great! It is definitely suitable for all skin types including sensitive skin too.

Will I buy it myself? Yes definitely!

SANA’s Natural Resource Foamed Wash

160ml / S$28.90

SANA’s Natural Resource Foamed Wash is my second step cleansing product. It helps to remove impurities, dead skin cells and residue on my skin. The lather is thick and supple. It feels gentle on my skin and it doesn’t cause any skin irritation. My skin feels clean and fresh after usage. Although my skin doesn’t feel tight which most cleansing foams do but SANA NR Foam Wash tends to leave a slight friction on my skin. I reckon it is due to the drying agent such as detergent in it.

Will I buy it myself? Maybe

SANA’s Natural Resource Skin Lotion M (Toner)

180ml / S$38.90

What I like about SANA’s Natural Resource Skin Lotion is that it provides the third step of cleansing : it further helps to remove the dirt and residue that the cleansing oil and foamed wash missed.

SANA’s Natural Resource Skin Lotion provides this lavender scent which is very refreshing. It is not sticky and it is quite watery. It doesn’t contain alcohol or fragrance which is good.

For night regimen, I will soak a cotton pad in SANA’s Natural Resource Skin lotion and rub my face with it. I will see makeup, residue, dirt and grime on the cotton pad. This mechanical rubbing with the toner-soaked cotton pad also helps to exfoliate the dead skin cells on the surface at the same time.

Will I buy it myself? Very likely!
