[Review] PCA Skin Active Broad Spectrum SPF 45

It’s mid of the year now and the weather has turned really burning hot lately. I’m so afraid of sun damage hence I will make sure to apply sunscreen on my face, neck and even my upper eyelid before I ever leave the house. It is one skincare product I can’t leave without whether if it’s rain or shine.

When it comes to rating sunscreens, there are two things I will look out for – it has to contain potent UVA sunscreen ingredients and also with high PA rating. I’m always on the lookout for good sunscreen products and I have recently found one.

PCA Skin active broad spectrum spf 45

Quite a while ago, I’ve received the PCA Skin Active Broad Spectrum SPF 45 and I was delighted to give it a try.

PCA Skin, founded by an aesthetician in 1990, is a product line that is only available at doctor’s office in Singapore. I’m pleased to learn that every PCA Skin’s SPF-rated product actually provides reliable broad-spectrum sun protection. I got to know about this brand at an aesthetics practitioner’s office many years ago. The first PCA Skin product I’ve tested is PCA Skin ExLinea Peptide Smoothing Serum, click HERE to read my review.

Clinique Clarifying Moisture Lotion 1

Clinique Clarifying Moisture Lotion 1

I’ve bought this large size (in 400ml) Clinique Clarifying Moisture Lotion 1 at Changi Airport. Clarifying Moisture Lotion 1 (ONE) is ideal for very dry to dry skin. Clinique 3-Step Skincare Care System, comprising of 3-steps – cleanse, exfoliate and moisturize; and Clarifying Lotion is used as the STEP 2 routine. Lotion (also known as toner), is one of my must-have products for my night regimen. Formulated with mostly water and miniscule active ingredients, this lotion acts as a double cleansing process to help cleanse away the residue and dirt that my cleanser has missed. It also helps to exfoliate my skin whenever I rub the soaked cotton pad with lotion on my face. This mild Clarifying Lotion is allergy tested and is 100% fragrance free. What I like about this mild lotion is that it doesn’t contain any alcohol and it’s super suitable for sensitive skin like mine. I will definitely buy it again!

Review – Yves Saint Laurent Top Secrets UV Shield High Protection UV Skincare SPF 50 PA++++

Do you know sun damage is the No.1 cause of premature skin aging? Even with low-intensity exposure to UV rays but in a long-term, it will still cause significant aging of the skin eventually.

Nevertheless, sunscreen is ultimately the most important skincare product I can’t leave without whether I’m in or out of home. And it is absolutely necessary during the timing from 10am to 4pm, even on a cloudy day.

Yves Saint Laurent Beaute Top Secrets UV Shield High Protection UV Skincare SPF 50 PA++++

Recently, I was being introduced to a new sunscreen by Yves Saint Laurent and what got me excited about this product is the PA++++! It is the Yves Saint Laurent Top Secrets UV Shield High Protection UV Skincare SPF 50 PA++++. It is a new addition to its Top Secrets collection and was launched in April 2013.

Yves Saint Laurent Beaute Top Secrets UV Shield High Protection UV Skincare SPF 50 PA++++

Wow! PA++++? This is the only sunscreen I’ve came across that is formulated with the highest PA++++! So far, the highest PA rating we can find in most sunscreens is only PA+++.

NEW Leaders Clinic Snail Collagen Filler 2-Step Mask & Medieu Sensitive Sun Cream

A few weeks ago, I was pleased to receive a parcel with newly launched Leaders Clinic products from Serenity Allure. There are 4 packs of Leaders Clinic Snail Collagen Filler 2-Step Masks, a Leaders Clinic Medieu Sensitive Sun Cream and a large passport case.

Are you familiar with this Korean brand Leaders Clinic? It is a leading clinical skincare brand that is developed by the top clinical experts in Korea. Their mask is one of the hottest selling clinical masks in Korea and it sells over 500,000 pieces in Korea each month. Their skincare line is also well-received by many Korean celebrities too.

Leaders Clinic Snail Collagen Filler 2-Step Mask – S$75 / a box (10 pieces)

Available at Sephora ION & Sephora MBS

Upon opening the parcel, what first caught my attention is the product name of the Snail Collagen Filler 2-Step Mask. Wow! Snail, collagen, filler, 2-step mask? The product name sounds tempting!

In the recent years, beauty products that are formulated with snail properties have been increasingly popular in Korea. It is claimed to have anti-aging benefits. To me, collagen and filler have the same benefits as they are usually made up of hydrating ingredients such as hyaluronic acid to help plump up fine lines and wrinkles. This is solely based on my own assumption anyway as there isn’t any ingredient list printed in English at the back of the packaging to identify on what are the ingredients that actually contain in it.

Review – Sunplay SPF 130 PA+++ Super Block Clear Finish & SPF 80 PA++ UV Body Mist Sunblock

By now, I believe you should be aware that sun is the #1 cause of premature aging. And in fact, the earlier that exposure begins, the longer it goes on, the worse the damage is.

Protecting yourself from ultraviolet radiation is the most important task you should do to revere or prevent sun damage. Applying sunscreen daily is definitely one of the best sun protection you can do to your skin.

I have recently received a complimentary Sunplay SPF 130 PA+++ Super Block Clear Finish and a Sunplay SPF 80 PA++ UV Body Mist Sunblock. Many thanks to TheSampleStore for sponsoring these products to me.

Sunplay SPF 80 PA++ UV Body Mist Sunblock

S$17.90 / Net wt. 150ml

Sunplay SPF 80 PA++ UV Body Mist Sunblock, the newest sunblock from Sunplay, is the #1 sunscreen in Japan. It will be officially launched islandwide on 18 April 2011.

This easy-to-use spray-on sunscreen with high SPF 80 protection, protect skin from harmful UVB rays that cause sun burnt and PA++ protection from harmful UVA rays that cause wrinkles and skin-aging. It has became the best seller sunscreen upon its launch in Hong Kong last year.

The benefits of UV Body Mist Sunblock

  • SPF 80 PA++ – high UVA and UVB protection
  • Water resistant, long lasting for all kinds of outdoor activities
  • Easy-to-apply one touch aerosol spray, applies evenly to whole body
  • Refreshing citrus scent, with cooling sensation to soothe sunburned skin
  • Non-greasy and light

I have noticed that alcohol is the first ingredient on the ingredient list which usually means it has high concentration in it. Although I refrain from using any product that contains alcohol as it will tend to dry up the skin but I will still continue using it as I find it easy to use and convenient. Due to the alcohol content, this sunscreen is only suitable for the body and therefore NOT advisable to use it on your face especially.

UV Body Mist Sunblock also contains minuscule amount of vitamin C and E to help fight free radicals and increase sun protection from UV rays.

Review – Japan SANA’s Natural Resource Range

A few months ago, I have received a full range of Japan SANA’s Natural Resource products and I was supposed to review them one month after usage. Yes I know it was way overdue. But due to other commitments lately, I have no choice but to defer this review. Excuses excuses excuses hee hee…………..

Thankfully, Carra from SANA has never chased me on this. Thanks Carra and Elfaine from TheSampleStore for their patience and understanding! :-)

Click here to read my earlier preview on SANA’s Natural Resource.

The range of SANA’s Natural Resource products that I have received and to review are :

  • Natural Resource Medicated Cleansing Oil
  • Natural Resource Medicated Foamed Wash
  • Natural Resource Medicated Skin Lotion (Toner)
  • Natural Resource Medicated Milk Lotion
  • Natural Resource Medicated Cream
  • Natural Resource Medicated Essence Lotion (Serum)
  • Natural Resource Medicated UV Milk SPF19 PA+++ (sunblock)
  • Natural Resource Liquid Foundation UV SPF22 PA+++
  • Natural Resource Loose Powder UV SPF19 PA+++
  • Natural Resource Medicated Compact Pressed Powder
  • Natural Resource Moist Skincare Powder 24h (night powder)

SANA’s Natural Resource Profile

SANA’s Natural Resource products, from Japan, contain natural ingredients such as balsam, wild rose, magwort, white birch, brown sugar and adlay extracts. They also contain refreshing fruits and fragrant flowers such as geranium, lavender, rosewood, bergamot (orange) and grapefuit. These natural aromas allows skin and mind to relax with the refreshing fragrance of herbal aroma and to heal tired spirit. Frankly, I was a little skeptical to review these products at first. Reason because it contains natural lavender ingredient which (I always have this perception) will cause skin irritation especially on sensitive skin like mine. But I brave myself to try out the products and to my surprise, most of the products do not cause any irritation except the Essence Lotion.

All SANA’s Natural Resource products are FREE of colorants, mineral oil, alcohol (except Skin Lotion AC), paraben, ultraviolet ray absorbent agent and artificial fragrances.

All SANA’s Natural Resource is suitable for sensitive skin except Lotion AC.

SANA’s Natural Resource Cleansing Oil

180ml / S$34.90

SANA’s Natural Resource Cleansing Oil is my favourite SANA Natural Resource product. I like the transparent lightweight, dilute and non-oily texture. It is less oilier than other cleansing oils I have tested before such as Shu Uemura and Fancl. I like the light lavender scent too.

Although SANA Cleansing Oil is very gentle but it effectively removes stubborn waterproof makeup pretty well. This oil-based makeup remover effortlessly remove all traces of makeup and it doesn’t make my skin feeling greasy/oily after use. It doesn’t make my skin feeling dry nor tight. And most importantly, it doesn’t cause any irritation on my sensitive skin. Great! It is definitely suitable for all skin types including sensitive skin too.

Will I buy it myself? Yes definitely!

SANA’s Natural Resource Foamed Wash

160ml / S$28.90

SANA’s Natural Resource Foamed Wash is my second step cleansing product. It helps to remove impurities, dead skin cells and residue on my skin. The lather is thick and supple. It feels gentle on my skin and it doesn’t cause any skin irritation. My skin feels clean and fresh after usage. Although my skin doesn’t feel tight which most cleansing foams do but SANA NR Foam Wash tends to leave a slight friction on my skin. I reckon it is due to the drying agent such as detergent in it.

Will I buy it myself? Maybe

SANA’s Natural Resource Skin Lotion M (Toner)

180ml / S$38.90

What I like about SANA’s Natural Resource Skin Lotion is that it provides the third step of cleansing : it further helps to remove the dirt and residue that the cleansing oil and foamed wash missed.

SANA’s Natural Resource Skin Lotion provides this lavender scent which is very refreshing. It is not sticky and it is quite watery. It doesn’t contain alcohol or fragrance which is good.

For night regimen, I will soak a cotton pad in SANA’s Natural Resource Skin lotion and rub my face with it. I will see makeup, residue, dirt and grime on the cotton pad. This mechanical rubbing with the toner-soaked cotton pad also helps to exfoliate the dead skin cells on the surface at the same time.

Will I buy it myself? Very likely!

Prevent Skin Aging With Kiehl’s Ultra Light Daily UV Defense SPF 50 PA+++

To me, sun protection is the most important prevention against skin aging. Leading dermatologist always recommend daily sunscreen as the number one measure necessary to protect skin against UVA and UVB rays, in turn slowing down the skin aging process. The signs of skin aging produced by ultraviolet light and in particular by UVA rays may amplify and speed up those effects due to chronological aging.

90% of skin aging can be prevented
with daily sunscreen use

Despite warnings from medical experts, many people today still do not include sunscreen use in their daily skin care regimen. The reasons vary but common complaints cited are that sunscreens are thick feeling, and can appear opaque on skin. Other complaints are that formulas clog pores and cause breakouts.

Before, I have the same concerns too and that is why I don’t even bother to wear any sunscreen until in my early 30s. It is when I noticed my first signs of aging and started to regret so much for not taking good care of my skin. It’s just like a wake-up call to me and it’s too late to undone the skin damages caused by the SUN. Therefore I strongly advise my readers, it’s never too late or early to start using sunscreen if you are still young. If only I have proper sun protection in my early days, I probably can delay the signs of aging much much later. Review – Clarins UV Plus Day Screen High Protection SPF 40

To me, sun protection is always the most important skin care regimen and is the first line of defense against skin aging. As I truly understand that diligent use of a sunscreen allows some repair as well as protection from further sun damage. Even though the sheer foundation I’ve used provides SPF 30 but that doesn’t stop me from using a sunscreen for double protection.

More than six months ago, I’ve decided to stop wearing foundation as I feel that it makes my skin looking cakey and ‘make-up’. Maybe you can blame it on the foundation or maybe is the way I apply it. And moreover, I aim to create a more natural-looking skin too. Therefore, I began looking around for a well-formulated tinted sunscreen that not only can provide good sun protection but also can superficially help to even up my skin tone without looking ‘make-up’. Finally I’ve found Clarins UV Plus Day Screen High Protection SPF 40.

Review – Vichy Laboratoires Capital Soleil SPF 50+ Face Cream

When buying a sunscreen product, most people usually do not bother on checking what’re the ingredients in the product, but more concerned on the texture, smell and SPF. In fact, it is far more important to know what’s the beneficial ingredients that can help on protecting our skin from the harmful UV rays

Vichy Laboratoires Capital Soleil SPF 50+ Face Cream for reactive skin is one product I have discovered recently to have many useful ingredients. It contains Mexoryl® XL, Octocrylene, Titanium Dioxide and Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane.

Mexoryl® XL – is an active ingredient which said to give a broad-spectrum sunscreen protection against both UVA and UVB rays.

Octocrylene – protects skin from the UVB range of sunlight.

Titanium Dioxide – offers protection across a greater range of wavelengths with no risk of irritation and protects across the entire UVA & UVB spectrum.

Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane – it is a synthetic sunscreen ingredient (also known as Parsol 1789 and avobenzone) that can protect against the entire range of the sun’s UVA rays.

It also contains Eperuline which helps to lower the sensitivity level of the skin, which is extremely suitable for sensitive skin like me. After application, my skin tends to feel a bit whitish and slight oily.

Will I buy it again? …… I doubt so!

Vichy is available at Watsons, Guardian and pharmacy stores
