This October, Singapore’s leading health & beauty retailer Watsons is proud to adopt the Breast Cancer Foundation (BCF) as their official charity again. Aiming to raise $100,000 for BCF this time, Watsons will undertake 3 breast cancer awareness initiatives, namely the selling of BCF pink ribbon pins and the giveaway of BCF Breast Books; the Watsons’ Pink Shelves Program to be launched on September 22, and the Watsons Pink Ribbon Walk 2011 on October 1 which will kick start Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.
Breast cancer has remained the number one cancer killer for women in Singapore. On average, approximately 1,492 women are diagnosed with the disease annually, with at least 354 lives claimed every year.
BCF programs aim to raise awareness for the early detection of breast cancer so that chances of recovery are significantly enhanced. It also increases the chance of survival before the disease becomes life threatening. Regular breast self-examinations and going for annual mammograms are the first steps women can take to be in control of their breast health.
