Review – Paula’s Choice Resist Intensive Wrinkle-Repair Retinol Serum

.

If you’re into anti-aging skin care, then you would have came across this proven anti-aging ingredient called Retinol. Well Retinol, commonly known as non-prescription and mildest form of Vitamin A, is one of the first antioxidants used in over-the-counter wrinkle cream.

Vitamin A can help improve skin cells renewal, stimulate collagen production, improve photo-damaged skin, reduce the look of uneven skin tone, wrinkles and fine lines. Since Retinol is the mildest strength of Vitamin A, it is therefore suitable for most skin type and depending on the product formulation, it may be suitable for sensitive skin too.

A couple of months back, I was delighted to receive a compliment Paula’s Choice Resist Intensive Wrinkle-Repair Retinol Serum from Paula’s Choice Singapore. I was extremely excited about this new Retinol serum and I couldn’t wait to try it out upon receiving it.

.

Product Profile

  • Supercharged blend of retinol and potent antioxidants help skin of any age look and act younger
  • Repairs wrinkles and sun damage
  • Builds skin-firming collagen
  • Reduces dark spots
  • Anti-irritants reduce redness and soothe sensitive skin
  • Helps fade red marks from past breakouts.
  • Fragrance-free and contains no dyes or coloring agents

My 10 Most Must-Have Beauty Products At The Moment!

.

After much persuasion from some lovely readers, yes yes yes I heard you <grin>, I decided to unveil my “10 Most Must-Have Beauty Products At The Moment!” This is something I wanted to share with my readers for the longest time too! ;-)

Frankly, to pick 10 beauty products from the loads of beauty products I’m currently using seems pretty easy for me. These 10 beauty products are not only my most favorites but also my most essential beauty products that I CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT AT THE MOMENT!

Nothing to be surprised about, there isn’t any makeup product among the 10. The makeup trends are changing rapidly and hence it’s kind of difficult to select a must-have makeup product. But how about essential makeup product such as foundation? Well actually, foundation is something I can live without as I hardly use it anyway unless I have an event to attend on the very day. Usually I will just lightly dust a thin amount of loose powder on my face and complete the look with a tinge of creamy blusher on the cheek areas and lip gloss…. and I’m ready to go!

But if you wanna me to name 1 must-have makeup product at the moment, it will be Clarins Colour Quench Lip Balm in 04 Raspberry Smoothie! :-)

Resist Weekly Resurfacing & Smoothing System

Both Resist Weekly Resurfacing Treatment and Resist Daily Smoothing Treatment are a 2-part AHA anti-aging exfoliating system. Formulated with 10% and 5% glycolic acid respectively that help to resurface your skin for significantly improved tone and texture. They are claimed to stimulate healthy collagen production, reduce wrinkles and signs of sun damage, even up skin tone and improve skin texture.

Usage Frequency :

Apply Resist Daily Smoothing Treatment daily after cleansing and toning (a non-AHA/BHA toner preferred).

Apply Resist Weekly Resurfacing Treatment only at night once to three times per week after cleansing and toning (a non-AHA/BHA toner preferred).

.

NEW Resist Weekly Resurfacing Treatment

Resist Weekly Resurfacing Treatment with 10% Alpha Hydroxy Acid is quite similar to Resist Daily Smoothing Treatment with 5% Alpha Hydroxy Acid but with a higher percentage of AHA (10%). Hence you will only need to use either one on each regimen. Resist Weekly Resurfacing Treatment is considered as one of the few high potency AHA products in the market.

Resist Weekly Resurfacing Treatment with 10% Alpha Hydroxy Acid, suitable for all skin types except probably darker-skinned (black skin) tone, is formulated to help reveal radiant and youthful looking skin. It is claimed in less than two weeks your skin will experience improved texture, color, tone, and a noticeable reduction in the appearance of wrinkles. With ongoing use, skin becomes firmer and is better able to further resist the signs of aging.

This excellent high-potency resurfacing treatment contains age-fighting antioxidants with 10% AHA (glycolic acid) that are proven to stimulate healthy collagen production, combat free radicals and reduce wrinkles.

It is also formulated with a couple of soothing anti-inflammatory ingredients that help provide impressive results without irritation at all.

Many products have somewhat similar and promising claims – Formulated with latest and greatest ingredients that can eliminate wrinkles and fine lines in 14 days!

Unfortunately, some of these so-called breakthrough ingredients are mostly antioxidants that can only effectively help to delay or prevent aging but they may not be able to reverse aging or make the wrinkles and fine lines disappear.

So what makes an anti-aging product ticks? Well, continue reading to find out more……

Review – Retacnyl Tretinoin 0.025% Cream (Vitamin A)

.

Have you heard of Tretinoin? Well Tretinoin, commonly known as Vitamin A, Retin A or Retinoids, is an potent antioxidant that is proven to help stimulate new collagen production, reduce pigmentation, remove fine lines and wrinkles.

I have bought this prescripted Retacnyl Tretinoin 0.025% Cream more than a year ago at National Skin Centre. You probably will ask, why was I not using it till now? Well, Vitamin A and its derivatives is claimed to cause birth defects and I have to avoid it at all cost as I was trying for a baby during the last two years. After unsuccessful pregnancy till now, I decided to start using it.

Click here to learn more about Vitamin A.

.

My First Encounter With Tretinoin

In fact, many years back I have actually tested Tretinoin and it was of a different brand (can’t remember the brand). I first started Tretinoin with the lowest strength at 0.01%. I was recommended by the doctor to start with the lowest percentage to see if I can tolerate the product well before I can gradually increase the strength. As 0.01% is the mildest strength and it also means it has the lowest skin irritancy as compare to the higher strength, I didn’t get to see any result at all.

Therefore after using the lowest strength 0.01% for a few months, I decided to switch to a much higher strength at 0.025%, hoping to see a more obvious result. As there was no skin irritation occurred even after a few months usage, I took the courage to increase the strength further to 0.05%. Anyway, the highest strength available is 0.1%.

In fact, Tretinoin can be too irritating for many people and may not be suitable for all people. The most common irritations are skin dryness, redness and flaking.

My skin couldn’t take the higher strength at 0.05% and I encountered skin irritation. I have mild flaking all over the face, my skin was extremely dry, I felt tingling sensation after application and the corner of my lips bled. All-in-all, it was too drying for my skin! Hence, I stopped using it barely after two months.

.

Vitamin A & Hydroquinone

Lately, I have read a couple of beauty books by doctors and most of them (almost all) have highly recommended the readers to use Tretinoin (also known as Retin A or Vitamin A) to help stimulate collagen production, improve skin elasticity and fight wrinkles.

Experts have claimed that when Vitamin A mixes with Hydroquinone (a bleaching ingredient), both will enhance the removal of pigment or brown spots on the skin.

Dr Brooke Rutledge Seckel, M.D., author of Save Your Face, has claimed that “Combining Retinol 0.3% with Hydroquinone 4% is effective in resolving fine lines, pigment and improving skin texture.”

Paula Begoun, author of Don’t Go To The Cosmetics Counter Without Me, has also claimed that “When tretinoin is used in combination with hydroquinone, skin discolorations can show a far more noticeable and impressive improvement.”

Click here to read more about the great combination of Vitamin A and hydroquinone….

.

Giving Tretinoin A Second Chance!

After realizing the goodness of this combination, I decided to mix my current hydroquinone product Paula’s Choice Remarkable Skin Lightening Lotion (with 2% hydroquinone and 7% AHA) with Retacnyl Tretinoin 0.025% Cream to see if both are used together could treat the stubborn dark spots on my right cheek area.

In addition, as I was hoping to eliminate fine lines on my forehead and nasolabial folds, improve my skin elasticity and increase collagen production, I therefore decided to give prescription Retacnyl Tretinoin 0.025% Cream a shot again.

.

Review on Retacnyl Tretinoin 0.025% Cream

Hyperpigmentation has always been one of my major skin problems and I have been painstakingly finding ways to treat it. There is this fairly obvious melasma on the right cheek area that has been causing me a headache. I have been finding solutions to eliminate this melasma but to no avail. I have tried various lasers and treatments but they do not seem to help lighten the dark spots at all.

A week after using Paula’s Choice Remarkable Skin Lightening Lotion (with 2% hydroquinone and 7% AHA) with Retacnyl Tretinoin 0.025% Cream, I was glad to notice superficial improvement on the melasma, the stubborn dark spots seem lighter. But the “happiness” didn’t last long anyway and after continuously using both products for a month, I was shocked to find the melasma (on the right cheek) has gotten even darker than before. There was redness on the areas applied too. I kept asking myself why??
