Signs of Aging Eyes

Typically, this is the first part of the face to look a little worse for wear.

As you get into your 30s and beyond, the skin under the eyes, which is thinner than the rest of the face, starts to thin out even more, making any discoloration underneath more visible. Another most common signs of aging eyes are crow’s feet - lines around the eyes caused by repetitive smiling, sunlight aging and smoking.

Wearing a product with sunscreen and antioxidants during the day will help to prevent sun damage and free radicals formation. Using a cream or gel with vitamin C and retinol at night will help to build and protect collagen.

Bags under the eyes can also develop due to weakness of the ligaments in the eyelids which creates a bulging of fat under the eyes. If you have a tendency to become puffy, reduce salt intake and minimize alcohol consumption, since both salt and alcohol can make us retain excess water. Eye cream product with caffeine and cucumber extract are shown to help by temporarily tighten the skin and liberate trapped fluid.

In addition, preparations with green tea extract can soothe redness and inflammation.

Dark eye circles are the result of lifestyle habits such as smoking, drinking too much caffeine, overindulging in alcohol, and not sleeping enough. Nicotine, alcohol and caffeine cause the capillaries to leak iron and blood cells into the under-eye area, giving it a dark appearance. Eye creams with vitamin K can heal the broken capillaries to prevent them from leaking blood into the under-eye region.

Sometimes dark circles are the result of hyperpigmentation, due to sun damage, hormonal fluctuations or genetics. The solution is to get an eye cream which contained skin thickening ascorbic acid plue kojic acid, another lightening agent.

It is always recommended to use products specifically created for the under-eye area, rather than ones for the face, because they have been formulated to be extra gentle on this especially sensitive area. Eye creams tend to be thicker than regular moisturizers, so use sparingly. A little goes a long way.
