Hi Charmaine,

I’m afraid SkinCeuticals does not carry specified skin care products for whitening.

But if you are interested in SkinCeuticals products that could help on skin brightening in a way, I will recommend you the SERUM 10 AOX+ (I have earlier done a review on this product) or Phloretin CF to start. It is especially if you are first timer on using concentrated L-ascorbic acid and having a sensitive skin. (skin irritation may occurred on sensitive skin occasionally)

Both contains 10% of L-ascorbic acid which is a good form of vitamin C. This powerful antioxidant helps to build collagen, combat free radicals, smoothen and brighten up skin hence a result of a more radiance skin.

Vitamin C may help to lighten up the pigmentation spots but you wouldn’t be able to see the result immediately.

But if you have ever tried concentrated L-ascorbic acid before with no irritation occurred, then I will recommend you the C + AHA. It contains 15% concentration of pure L-ascorbic acid and 10% concentration of hydroxy acids which exfoliates to smooth the skin and create a more youthful appearance.

Cheers,
Shirleen

Hi Natalia,

I would like to answer your questions since Charmaine hasn’t replied you.

After some studies on their range of products, there are 3 possible products which may suitable for you. BUT I will recommended the first product though.

1. RETINOL 0.5
It contains Retinol, a non-prescription option and mildest form of vitamin A, helps to increase collagen production, reduce wrinkles and lines, exfoliate dead skin, diminish the appearance of pores and even-up skin tone. You are not allow to use this product if you’re pregnant.

Although there are 2 strengths available Retinol 0.5 and Retinol 1.0, since you have sensitive skin, I will advise you to start with the lowest strength. There’s a possibility that you will encounter mild irritation with this ingredient.

2. RETEXTURING ACTIVATOR NEW
Based on the product profile “a 20% daily glycolic treatment that harnesses 2 mechanisms — exfoliation and hydration”, this product may seem to help you in a way. Glycolic, also known as AHA, is said to help exfoliate dead skin cells and reduce pores size.

But since I could not obtain a full ingredient lists, I will have to give this product a benefit of doubt. First of all, I’m not too sure if it really contains glycolic acid and also based on the key ingredients mention on the product profile, it contains 25% concentration of Hydroxyethyl Urea/Aminosulfonic Acid Compound with Kombuchka and Hyaluronic Acid, which all these ingredients are only beneficial to hydrating skin.

3. C + AHA
It contains 15% concentration of pure L-ascorbic acid helps protect against damaging UVA/UVB rays, prevent premature signs of aging, and stimulate collagen production. On the surface, a 10% concentration of hydroxy acids exfoliates to smooth the skin and reduce pores size.

C+AHA incorporates both glycolic acid and lactic acid to slough off the rough outer layer of the skin, revealing newer, youthful skin under the surface.

Hi Shirleen,

Thanks your reply , i will try the retinol 0.5 first , but the Phloretin CF(C+AHA) suitable for sensitive skin ?How about CE ??Please advise .

Thanks

Hi Natalia,

Phloretin CF, C E Ferulic and C+AHA contain L-ascorbic acid (vitamin C). L-ascorbic acid is an unstable yet potent ingredient. From time to time you may encounter some irritation.

I do have sensitive skin too but my skin loves vitamin C but not vitamin A. No doubt I do get minor irritation from vitamin C at times. But my skin gets serious irritation from vitamin A (strong prescription strength, not retinol don’t worry). :-)

I believe it really depends on individual skin though.

Hi Shirleen,

I just discovered this website and am amazed at your knowledge in this area. I have witnessed more pigmentation since my delivery and was contemplating getting dermatics(recommended by beautician) but chanced upon this Skin Ceuticals and you….again! Can you recommend sthg perhaps for pigmentation and sensitive skin?

Shirleen

November 17th, 2009 at 12:06 am

avatar

Hi Gin,

There’s a new product specially created to treat pigmentation - SkinCeuticals Pigment Regulator.

It contains the same skin lightening ingredient ‘kojic acid’ as Dermatics Brightening. And it also contains 2% emblica (antioxidant) and 10% glycolic acid (excellent for exfoliating). But it does contains minuscule quantities of skin-irritant ingredients which I hope won’t give much a problem to your sensitive skin.

So I will treat this product as a 2-in-1 (exfoliant cum lightening) product as compare to Dermatics. :-)

Hi!

Is Eye Renewal Gel available in Singapore?
I don’t see much effect from Eye Cream, and the Eye Gel AOX that I’ve been trying for the last few days are a tad drying on my eye areas.

I’m concerned with alleviaitng fine lines around the eyes.

Thanks for your help!

Hi Violett,

Not too sure if Eye Renewal Gel is available in Singapore thou.

After you apply the Eye Gel AOX, did you follow up with an eye cream to seal up moisture? As Eye Gel AOX is considered a serum, an eye cream is essential after the serum.

Hi Shirleen,

Like to ask if there’s a target age group for SkinCeuticals? I’m just afraid that it might be too strong for “younger” skin?

Btw, If I have dull complexion, which product will you recommand? Plus, my skin is combination.. Oily on the nose & cheeks, but dry on the forehead & chin area..

Thank You!

Shirleen

March 11th, 2010 at 1:37 am

Hi Chel,

Depending on the products, most treatment products are more suitable for mature skin to treat skin problems.

I’m not too sure how young you are, so if you do not have any skin problem and are below 20, those products are not necessary for you.

All you need is the 3 step basic regimen which are cleansing, toning and moisturizing.

As for your dull complexion, you may want to start out with SkinCeuticals Clarifying Cleanser. It contains only 2% salicylic acid which is very mild and you probably may only see superficial result on the dullness.

For toner, they only carry Equalizing Toner and Revitalizing Toner which I find them so-so. Look for alternative brand with hydrating benefits then.

For moisturizer, Daily Moisture is not too bad but the jar packaging is a problem. The moisturizer will gradually lost its nutrients with constant opening. You may skip the nose (oily) if you want to. :-)

But I need to first finish the Estee Lauder Night Repair. Prefer not to use both products at the same time because I will like to get the exact result from each product.

Do update me the eye serum too.

Hi,

I would to inquire what is the difference between Skinceutical Phyto plus and Skinceutical Pigment Regulator. I m currently using phyto plus. Do both product deliver the same result? Thanks.

Shirleen

July 11th, 2010 at 3:45 pm

avatar

Hi Maria,

Both are having similar function, is to help treating pigmentation. The difference is the ingredients contained.

Pigment Regulator - containing 2% Kojic Acid, 2% Emblica, and 10% exfoliating blend to provide powerful, skin-brightening results without the potentially harmful side effects of hydroquinone.

My verdict : It contains precise concentrations of kojic acid and emblica plus exfoliating ingredients to help exfoliate the dead skin cells. This product is good if you like exfoliating benefits and high concentration of the active ingredients.

Phyto+ - containing Kojic acid and arbutin (both are whitening ingredients) to work synergistically to help break up hyperpigmentation, while cucumber and thyme contain anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties to soothe red, irritated skin.

My verdict - contains both whitening ingredients Kojic acid and arbutin. It also contains anti-inflammatory ingredients which is suitable for people with sensitive skin.

Hi Lydia,

Definitely, it is not too early to start using CF or AOX. Choose either one instead of using both as both contain some similar ingredients. But both products may not be able to help on your clogged pores and blackheads though.

I think C + AHA may be more suitable for you. It contains 10% concentration of hydroxy acids to exfoliate your skin (thereby help to eliminate clogged pores & blackheads) and 15% concentration of pure L-ascorbic acid to protect against damaging UVA/UVB rays, prevent premature signs of aging and stimulate collagen production.

November 29th, 2010 at 6:00 pm

Hi Lydia,

Scrubbing and masking may not necessary remove blackheads. I think C + AHA will be a better choice for your blackheads. Reason because it contains 10% hydroxy acids which is proven to exfoliate dead skin cells. But frankly BHA (salicylic acid) will be a better choice for blackheads though.

Check out these two products : Paula’s Choice BHA 1% or 2 % Gel/Lotion (your texture preference) and Vichy Normaderm Active Anti-Imperfection Concentrate (it contains 4% BHA).

Shirleen

August 6th, 2011 at 11:50 am

Hi Cecilia,

If you are looking for skin lightening products within SkinCeuticals, then Phyto+ or Pigment Regulator may be suitable for you. You may want to consult from the counter assistant if you can use both products at the same time. Both using kojic acid as one of their key ingredients. You may consider incorporate Retinol 0.5 into the regimen too as it may help to increase the effectiveness of skin lightening. Again check with the counter assistant too.

I’m not too sure if these products will further thin your skin or too strong for your skin though. Do note that generally all lightening products (including SkinCeuticals) will not eliminate pigmentation. They will only help to lighten the stubborn dark spots and the result will not be immediate though. But they can improve uneven skin tone pretty well.

Whenever you are using a skin lightening product or going through a non-invasive treatment such as laser or diamond peel, it is essential to use a good broad-spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen. SkinCeuticals carry a couple of good broad spectrum sunscreens. Your pigmentation may get worse if insufficient or proper sun protection is given.

I yet to find a good firming product.

Hi Cecilia,

Hee hee…. you are so adorable! I can imagine the image of you typing without your glasses. ;-)

Retexturing Activator is a strong exfoliator with 20% Glycolic Acid and I believe it may help to lighten pigmentation and improve skin texture. But you got to use a VERY good broad-spectrum sunscreen when using this product though. Use this strong exfoliator only on night regimen.

ECF? Are you referring to CEF? Btw, both PCF and CEF are somewhat similar. You may want to start on 1 first.

Check out the SkinCeuticals counter at Guardian @ Tanglin Mall. If I’m not wrong, there’s one consultant stations at the L’oreal counter (Vichy, SkinCeuticals…..)

Thanks! ^^

Shirleen

October 7th, 2011 at 5:22 pm

Hi Mila,

Phloretin CF is a highly potent antioxidant serum that helps to combat free radicals and accelerate cell turnover whilst C+AHA helps to increase collagen production and exfoliate dead skin cells.

Both are great products actually. If you wanna remove those clogged pores, maybe C+AHA will be more effective.

Now i know what to get :D I heard PCF has a whitening function, that’s why i was tempted to try that as well, is it really?
I have been using C+AHA, i didn’t know i was suppose to keep it in the fridge. but as i remember, the color was already yellow when i first opened it, now it turned a bit darker than i first bought it. So is it no longer effective? i still use it right now, it seems to work pretty well though, im scared :(

Shirleen

October 8th, 2011 at 4:01 pm

avatar

Hi Mila,

I do not have the full ingredient list but what I understand is that PCF contains 10% L-ascorbic Acid that may help to brighten up the skin.

Yes opening the bottle (that is formulated with L-ascorbic acid) on and off may oxidize the product hence the color will get darker. I’ve noticed that most SkinCeuticals serums with vitamin C tend to appear yellowish when new. Btw, how long have you been using it? If it’s just a bit darker than I reckon it’s still ok.

Mila

October 8th, 2011 at 7:00 pm

I bought it for a lil bit more than half year ago, i stopped using it few months ago and recently started again. I didn’t keep it in the fridge, just in regular room temperature. So if it’s oxidized, the product may be less effective or ineffective at all?

Honestly nowadays I feel uneasy when I see women layering a few products before their sunscreen in the day time. It’s really really not recommended, especially if u use chemical sunscreen which needs to be applied on bare skin to work effectively. Even if ure using physical sunscreen, many dermatologists will recommend applying on bare skin.

Personally I dont even dare use a serum before my Anthelios sunscreen, becos it will lower the effectiveness of sunscreen. I apply my antioxidant serum at night. I recommend people avoid the skinceuticals serums that cant be washed off (e.g. C&E Ferulic) and use one of their other serums (e.g. C+AHA). Just apply it at night, then in the morning wash it off and apply sunblock. This is just my personal recommendation but I STRONGLY STRONGLY recommend it. In the past I read about top dermatologists and celebrities who only applied sunblock in the daytime and I wondered why they don’t bother with serums, moisturisers etc. But later on I realised that it’s not give the most effective sun protection.

Sorry for the long post. :)

Hi Shirleen,

I am keen to try out Skinceuticals pdts to treat my acne scarring. However, my current dermatologist prescribed 12% glycolic acid, L-ascorbic acid brigtening cream, and 0.05% Retacnyl (which I think it acts similar to Retinol A?) as part of the skincare regimen, and it doesn’t seem to improve my acne scarring condition.

Which would be the best Skinceutical pdts to treat acne scarring? I have oily/acneic skin (slightly dry on the surface skin).

Sorry for the long post, but help needed! Tq! :-)

Shirleen

Hi Eileen,

I find that what your dermatologist has prescribed are pretty good. You should continue using them. These products can only superficially reduce the look of scarring anyway. Don’t expect to see result immediately though. They are great for your skin cos they may help to increase collagen production and improve skin texture after a long use.

For a better result, non-invasive treatment will be a better choice. Get the doctor to recommend you the best treatment.

There isn’t any ideal Skinceuticals product for your scarring though.
