[Review] Change can Happen Overnight with Philosophy The Microdelivery Overnight Anti-Aging Peel

Wake up to a smoother, younger and radiant skin. Sounds impossible? Philosophy has now made it possible!

Philosophy is known for their 3-step skincare regime – CLEANSE1, PEEL2 and TREAT3.

Earlier this year, Philosophy has launched their new The Microdelivery Overnight Anti-Aging Peel in the US and it has finally reached our shores! In this post, I’m gonna share with you their 3-step skincare regime and my thoughts on their products after trying out for two weeks.

Step 1: CLEANSE with Purity Made Simple Cleanser

This is a multi-award winning 3-in-1 cleanser for face and eyes. Formulated for all skin types, it replaces your makeup remover, eye makeup remover, facial cleanser and toner.

But because I’m one of those who double cleanse (i.e. cleansing oil to remove all traces of makeup followed by facial cleanser for a more thorough cleanse), I use this cleanser after removing my makeup with cleansing oil.

This cleanser does not foam as much as compared to my other cleansers. It’s also non-drying to the skin as my face doesn’t feel tight nor dry after rinsing.

Step 2: PEEL with The Microdelivery Overnight Anti-Aging Peel

The Microdelivery Overnight Anti-Aging Peel Kit is a two-step peel consisting of an Alpha/Beta Hydroxy Acid Leave-On Peel Solution and a Youth-Extending Night Gel which are to be used at night, 2-3 times a week.

Step 2(I): Alpha/Beta Hydroxy Acid Leave-On Peel Solution
The leave-on peel solution contains a potent blend of glycolic acid, lactic acid, and beta hydroxy acid which stimulates skin micro-exfoliation throughout the night.

Saturate one of the enclosed cotton pads with the solution and wipe over cleansed skin. Do NOT rinse. Wait 2-3 minutes, then follow with step (II).

As a side note, I noticed the cotton pads that came with the overnight peel kit have a different texture on each side. One side is woven and feels smoother, whereas the other side is quilted and feels slightly rougher (has more texture to it). For those with sensitive or “thinner” skin, you might want to use the woven side instead. I personally prefer the rougher side as I want as much exfoliation as possible. Lol!

Step 2(II): Youth-Extending Night Gel
The jelly-like night gel is a cucumber-scented memory gel formulated with skin-strengthening Echinacea (a herb well-known and widely used to fight common colds and flu), anti-aging peptides, anti-irritants bisabolol and oat kernel extract to help soothe and hydrate the skin.

Gently massage the soothing night gel into the skin and leave on overnight. If you have very dry skin or on hormonal days where your skin is dryer than usual, I would suggest that you apply additional moisturiser over the night gel for additional hydration. For that purpose, I use Renewed Hope in a Jar moisturiser on top of the night gel to boost hydration to my skin.

After 2 weeks of use (about 5 peels), my skin appears smoother and more radiant. I can’t say that my skin is firmer (considering it’s only 2 weeks of use) but the pore size seems to have shrunk and fine lines are less obvious.

STEP 3: TREAT with Brighten My Day All-Over Skin Perfecting Brightening Essence + Renewed Hope in a Jar Moisturiser

Finally, treat the skin with serum(s) and moisturiser(s) so it most effectively receives the nourishment it needs. With proper nourishment, skin’s health is visibly improved and results of the peel are maximised.

The brightening essence which acts as a serum, is said not only to reduce dark spots, but also  acts on enlarged and darkened pores, and diminishes redness to achieve radiantly bright, flawlessly beautiful skin.

Its creamy white, semi-fluid texture is ultralight and easily absorbed by the skin.

The Renewed Hope in a Jar moisturiser is a newly innovated version of Hope in a Jar. This new formulation features a triple blend of alpha hydroxy acids, 3 forms of hyaluronate plus evodia rutaecarpa fruit extract, and claims to deliver an even longer-lasting glow and continuous hydration benefits. Though in cream form, it is lightweight and is mildly scented.

I use both the brightening essence and the moisturiser on days when I’m not using the overnight peel. Essence first, followed by moisturiser. I love how both products are easily absorbed by my skin right after application. I wonder if it’s due to the overnight peel that I’ve religiously been using for the past two weeks, since the peel sloughs off dead skin cells to reveal newer skin and hence promotes better absorption.

To sum things up, I would say that after two weeks of use, the results are better than my expectations and at the same time I’m amazed by how gentle an overnight peel can be. Throughout the two weeks, I did not experience any irritation or redness on my face. However, my face did feel a bit drier than usual. Not sure if it’s due to the peel but I did make an effort to provide more hydration to my face by applying mask and using Renewed Hope in a Jar moisturiser on days when my skin is taking a break from the peel.  I reckon with longer period of use, I will be able to see even better results.
