Lately in the span of 2 weeks, I’m pleasantly surprised to receive 3 newly launched powder foundations from 3 different leading brands. Interestingly, each of them has rather different USP (unique selling point) although all are designed to give an even, brighter and flawless looking skin.

The first was from Clarins which I have reviewed last week and the second powder foundation I’m going to review now is the Make Up For Ever WHITE DEFINITION Instant Brightening Powder Foundation SPF 30 PA++.

Make Up For Ever WHITE DEFINITION Instant Brightening Powder Foundation SPF 30 PA++ – S$79

This Make Up For Ever WHITE DEFINITION Instant Brightening Powder Foundation SPF 30 PA++ is specially designed for women who like to play with contrasts and want to create an image that is at once understated and sophisticated, said Dany Sanz (the founder of Make Up For Ever).

WHITE DEFINITION was launched at all Sephora Singapore stores and MAKE UP FOR EVER boutique @ OUB Centre #04-16 from 1 March 2012, retailing at S$79.

Dany Sanz, who created the first ever complete collection of brushes for professional make up artists back in 1983, has turned her attention to the special needs of Asian women after having honed her expertise under the extreme conditions imposed by intense stage lighting and high-definition movie cameras. In achieving and maintaining their ideal of fair, flawless beauty, Asian women, too, face extreme conditions, with levels of heat and humidity that prove too much for all but the most resistant formulas.

The challenge was to create a foundation that combined ultimate wear with true beauty benefits – instant brightness, an even, flawless finish and unprecedented comfort.

With its state-of-the-art formula its optimum blend of the finest quality powders and pigments, also incorporates high-level UVA/ UVB protection, ensuring the perfect glow and sophisticated finish!

WHITE DEFINITION Instant Brightening Powder Foundation SPF 30 PA++ is created in France in partnership with Japanese laboratories.

In consultation with Asian specialists, Dany Sanz selected the finest-quality double-sided sponge. The smooth NBR side offers excellent take-up, enabling the foundation to be applied easily and evenly to the face. It also has anti-bacterial, anti-copper and anti-UV properties. The flocked side, meanwhile, has a wonderfully soft feel, and is deal for achieving lighter coverage, for perfecting the make up result by buffing it to a smooth, velvety finish, and for retouching during the day.

From dozens of shades extensively tested by Asian women, MAKE UP FOR EVER selected four – Beige (10), Ivory (20), Flesh (35) and Sand (40) – to suit all Asian tones.

Here are some of the tips from Ludovic Lasson (Artistic Creation & Development Manager) for creating a flawless finish with WHITE DEFINITION :

WHITE DEFINITION can be applied in different ways depending on the time of year or personal preferences. In Spring/Summer, when the weather gets hot in Asia, I would recommend the sponge side of the applicator, which will give long-wearing, shine-defying coverage. The flocked side, on the other hand, will create a much sheerer finish. In winter, I would encourage women to try applying it with a brush – the Kabuki brush, for example, for a soft-focus finish, or the 55N powder brush, whose spaced-out bristles gives a very lightweight application.

In the evening, you want a more sophisticated look, and a quick way to get that is to step up your foundation coverage. I would therefore recommend applying WHITE DEFINITION with the sponge, perhaps finishing off with the Kabuki brush to create an airy feel. Above all, however, I would choose a foundation one shade lighter than usual. Why? Because, in low-lit even ambiances, a lighter shade illuminates the face, so you really glow.

Foundation application using the “NBR sponge side”

Upon application (shade Ivory 20), my skin appears brighter, fair and flawless instantly. Thanks to its unique combination of synthetic mica and lamellar mica coated with microspherical structure powder, which reflects light in all directions, optically blurring imperfections of texture and tone.

Even after applying 3 coats of powder foundation using the NBR sponge side, my skin doesn’t feel cakey at all. It has this fine, velvet-soft and silicon-coated powder texture that glides onto the skin smoothly. Do note that NBR sponge offers a heavier coverage as compare to flocked sponge side.

Upon applying the powder foundation on my whole face using the NBR sponge side, I noticed the finish is pretty matte and powdery. But fortunately, my skin doesn’t feel tight nor dry at all, thanks to its balanced blend of silica powder and sodium hyaluronate plus silicon oil (known for its non-greasy, soft-touch properties) that give skin a soft and comfortable feel.

I actually notice my skin appears differently when using different camera lighting. Don’t forget this WHITE DEFINITION is designed for women who like to play with contrasts and with intense stage lighting and high-definition movie cameras in mind.

Foundation application using the “flocked sponge side”

I actually prefer the flocked sponge application result as it gives a soft feel, sheer and lighter coverage. The flocked sponge offers a semi-matte finish whilst the NBR side provides an ultra-matte finish.

All-in-all with WHITE DEFINITION, my skin appears brighter, radiance and flawless. My skin doesn’t feel shiny even after many hours later, thanks to its silicon powder that absorbs excess sebum to combat shine.

If you like an instant brightening finish, this WHITE DEFINITION Instant Brightening Powder Foundation is definitely ideal for you.
