Recently, I was pleased to receive a parcel from Kiehl’s Singapore and it contains the new Skin Rescuer Stress-Minimizing Daily Hydrator that is said to address and reduce skin’s visible response to stress.

According to workspace provider Regus’ latest research, statistics have shown that over half of Singaporean workers (55%) say their stress levels have risen over the past year. It is understood that for those of us with busy everyday lives, full of pressures of balancing work, family and even finances, stress has became a part of our everyday existence.

Stress not only affects our overall health but it also causes premature skin aging, weaker skin barrier and other visible skin problems, such as dry, dull-looking skin and acne. When stress signals are released from inside our body, it will therefore cause an inflammatory skin response resulting in visible signs of stress. Continued stress response can make skin more vulnerable and can lead to premature skin aging.

The new Skin Rescuer Stress-Minimizing Daily Hydrator utilizes highly efficient ingredients Mannose and Rosa Gallica to address and reduce skin’s visible response to stress. The key ingredients is said to help limit the release of stress signals and promote a healthy, strong skin barrier. Skin will become less vulnerable to the signs of stress.

In order to effectively combat the signs of stress on skin, Kiehl’s chemists discovered they needed to address three factors :

1. Limit the release of stress signals

Stress is well documented to cause an inflammatory response in the body. Research has shown that chronic psychological stress is even associated with the body losing its ability to regulate the inflammatory response. The inflammatory response to stress signals and a weakened skin barrier can lead to visible “stressed skin” symptoms such as redness, fatigued skin, dehydrated and blotchiness. Rosa Gallica Extract limits the release of stress signals, in turn minimizing the inflammatory response and thus breaking the stress cycle.

2. Protect skin barrier from future reactions

Mannose : A stronger skin barrier is known to reduce visible signs of stress on skin, making it less vulnerable to future, inevitable stress.
Squalane : Naturally-derived from olives, this healing botanical lipid is highly compatible with the natural oil in skin. Instantly restores and replenishes the skin barrier and is known to protect skin from dehydration.
Blend of Unique Ceramides : These lipids found in high concentrations within the cell membrane of skin cells are known to help protect and strengthen the skin barrier.

3. Treat, calm and hydrate the skin

Chamomile Extract : Helps soothe and calm skin.
Glycerin : The humectant draws moisture from the air to increase immediate and prolonged hydration; helps skin regain its suppleness and smoothness.
Shea Butter : Naturally-derived lipid known for its ability to protect skin from dehydration.

Though Skin Rescuer Stress-Minimizing Daily Hydrator has a pretty simple ingredient list and I’m glad it contains a couple of potent emollient and barrier repair ingredients like glycerin, shea butter and ceramides that are great for dehydrated skin. It has a lightweight texture which is suitable to be used in day and night.
