Treatment Review - Dermal Fillers For Nasiolabial Folds & Marionette Lines, And Botox For Face Slimming & Forehead
..
Three months ago, I have written an article on Facial Remodeling Workshop conducted by Dr Z and I’m glad I have been chosen as the winner blogger to win a FREE one-vial Juvederm (hyaluronic acid) filler facial contouring treatment.
During the earlier workshop, Dr Z performed on two patients to demonstrate the faster and convenient way to achieve a sharper nose, higher cheekbones and slim down the face using fillers and botox without going under the knife.
I’m always troubled with my nasiolabial folds and marionette lines, these aging signs have made me look 5 years older than I should. So after seeing the result of the two patients, I was somewhat convinced that he (Dr Z) can probably help to treat my aging problems and hence I decided to make a visit to his clinic two weeks ago.
After analysing my problems, Dr Z suggested I require 2 vials of fillers for my nasiolabial folds and marionette lines, and botox for my flabby jawline and forehead fine lines.
Juvederm Ultra Plus Fillers costs @$900 per vial and Botox @$20 per unit
As the winner blogger, I have gotten one FREE vial Juvederm Fillers, hence I only need to pay for one more vial fillers (U.P.$900) plus 20 units botox (U.P.$400). For all, Dr Z gave me a special price which cost slightly less than $1000.
Technically, in average the cost for :
Square jaw @ $20 X 40 units = $800
Forehead @ $20 X 5 units = $100

What can Juvederm Ultra Plus Fillers do?
Juvederm (hyaluronic acid) Ultra Plus Fillers, with lidocaine (a pain relieving ingredient), is usually used to fill the face to REPLACE lost volume or to CREATE volume. This new Hyaluronic acid Fillers has a good safety profile and longevity record. It can treat nasiolabial folds, lips enhancement, sharper nose, higher cheekbone and sharper chin.
Pain Factor : Moderate pain on the first injection and very little pain or almost nothing on the subsequent injections on the same area. All thanks to lidocaine that helps to numb the skin.
..
What can Botox do?
Botox is a neuro-toxin that works by breaking the communication path between the signals sent when we make a facial expression to the brain. Botox does not paralyze the muscle and is claimed to treat frown lines, crow’s feet, forehead lines, brow lift, bunny lines and facial slimming.
Pain Factor : Moderate pain on both side jawline area below the ear (for face contouring) and mild pain on the forehead.

Forehead Lines
Treated with botox, forehead fine lines are almost invisible after two weeks. I love it.

Will I try again? Yes very likely!

Nasiolabial Folds
As my nasiolabial folds are quite deep, I need more than one and a quarter vial of Juvederm Fillers on both folds. The Fillers have help to plump up the nasiolabial folds and they are visibly less obvious now. Both folds look natural and there is no bump at all but the wear and tear lines are still obvious. I reckon I need to use laser or fraxel to remove them. I definitely look two to three years younger now. Hee hee….

Marionette Lines
To me, these lines are the most problematic aging lines to treat. And they are also the one that make me look really old. This sign of aging really gives me headache and I’m helpless. In fact, I can live with nasiolabial folds but not marionette lines. I’m always envy people with well defined jawline with no marionette lines at all. While I blame myself for that. The aging accelerates due to the frequent sun tanning and unprotected sun protection during my 20s and early 30s. My skin feels less elastic and loses fats. While all these changes are taking place, gravity is at work, pulling at the skin, causing it to sag.
One week after the treatment : There are lumps and swelling on both side (bottom corner) of my mouth. Although these lumps are not visible to the eyes but I can feel them when I touch on my skin. I have also noticed that my bottom half of my face (from mouth to chin level) looked bloated and much heavier. I hate the look, it is as if there are cotton wools stuffed inside my mouth. That is why I decided to go back to Dr Z’s clinic to treat the lumps and heaviness.
Dr Z used his fingers to massage hard and disperse the lumps. With hard pressing, it causes bruises and the biggest bruise is as big as a 5-cent coin. Even foundation is not able to cover the bruises. But for the heaviness, there’s nothing much he can do about it.
Two weeks after the treatment : The bruises and swelling are gone. The heaviness has reduced too. My right marionette line has gone but the left marionette line is still slightly visible. It is also due to the accumulated fats situated near the left marionette line. Now, I’m definitely look much better and younger than before.

Will I try again? May not, I do not like the heaviness look!

Facial Slimming
The first test Dr Z do is to use one of his finger and press on the bone at the extreme corner of the jawline right below the ear. He then asked me to bite my teeth and check the muscle density on the area. After analyzing, he felt that Botox may not have any impact on my face contouring. He claimed that Botox only works well for women with square jawline especially with intense muscle.
But eventually, he decided to give it a shot and see if does work for me. On the first week, there is no visible improvement on my facial shape. On the second week, there is very superficial improvement on the face shape. My face is slightly slimmer now.

Hi Shirleen,
there’s slimming effect of your jaw, it also looks more defined. As a result, your chin looks sharper. The overall effect may be subtle but you do look nicer. Besides, the full effect of botox jaw slimming takes 4 weeks to see the maximum results.

thanks for sharing your experience with the fillers, am thinking of going for this soon. but your comments on the ‘heavy’ looks worry me. is it due to the skill of the doc or it is part & parcel of filler injection?

Hi Sparkle,
I guess are due to both and it also depends on your face structure eg protruding lower jaw or super flat cheek areas like mine. I reckon fillers work well for people with “apple” cheeks instead.

Hi Sparkle,
Hee hee……. I actually born with a protruding lower jaw. So the fillers injections on the nasolabial folds & marionette lines make my lower jaw even more protruding and hence the ‘heavy’ look.

Hi Tandy,
I’ve only been there twice. During my visit, the clinic wasn’t crowded and both days were a Saturday.
I doubt he has heavy traffic for botox and I feel that his skill set is so-so.
